Winter coats and jackets

It's very warm. Even a lightweight down comforter will keep you very warm. So I suspect a coat would be much the same ...

thanks :-D i'm curious since i always hear about that. well a few comments, it was from a few girls who didn't know what was inside their coats. they said the garment was quite thin but it kept them the warmest compared to their other winter clothes, the bulky ones (puffa) even. do you ever get 'poked' by the feathers? that happens to me with pillows--i hate it. might be duck than goose though.

Here's my new coat. I think I'm going to iron the hell out of the shoulder seams to make them look nicer.

This is the first swing coat that doesn't drown me completely...only a little  I love that it goes with everything. I can go for years without getting another coat now

I have EDC by Esprit coat with feathers. It's extremely warm, light and no, I never get poked by feathers ^_^

^Ditto. My goose down coat is not very pretty but very necessary for midwinter in Chicago. The coat is so light it feels like it hovers above the skin. And I never get poked, either.

Thanks guys :-P Mine must be a different bird then, with bigger quills..
I want one now. I couldn't find the EDC coat on their website, but I sympathise with Geostud here- the coats I see online are not very pretty. They are all quite bulky. Some are puffa jackets and a few others are smooth on the outside but have a lining, quilted with the down. It's bulky nonetheless, though lightweight

Sort of the same issue I have with fur. I don't like looking like a marshmallow. Some people look good/better as marshmallow but not I.

Is this just me BTW.... or are all the fake or faux furs in the shops just now not just awful!!!! They look so cheeps and tacky... I love the fur look but cheap fake fur to me looks just so cheap! Is there any nice fake furs out there... I'd posibly even consider buying them if they looked good! Otherwise thinking it will be another real fur for me this winter... It's such a shame they can still only produce cheap looking rubbish for the high st

The Moncler ones are pretty, and I saw a CdG one that looked good too, so I think it can be done. Some of them are nicely triangular, asymetrical, and/or nipped in at the waist ...

gius, there are different grades of down/feathers, so it may just be a lesser grade that's causing you problems.

I checked a list for the different grades^ and there were pictures --the down in general is actually pretty tiny, no matter what grade. And because it's so tiny the quills would be too soft to hurt.
I pulled some out of mine and they are actual feathers, not down.. It's long, probably taken from the top part of the bird rather than the underside where the down would be. I'm sure it's not goose. Anyway I don't use that pillow... I use a synthetic one...

What I was hoping was to find a coat/jacket that's quite thin like in this picture, which also has down in it. And I was hoping it would be warm

But from doing some more reading, I realise that in terms of grading... they mean that if you get 1 oz of down in high quality and 1 oz in lower quality, the high quality has more filling power... resulting in a puffier and denser/warmer jacket. You would have to fill maybe 3x the one ounce of lower quality to fill the same size space, which would make a heavier jacket.

Wonder if my ramble makes any sense lol

Anyway the conclusion is, I will always end up with a puffy jacket.
unless I get that fabric Belstaff and Undercover are using, which regulates body temperature... I heard it was patented by NASA.

^ Yes, I understand. But it's not always ... when you have become highly successful, you will be able to have all the thin down coats your little heart desires ... and btw, don't forget your friends who knew you when ;)

I can't use a down pillow, makes me sneeze ... but in throws and furniture and comforters it's fine.

I went and bought another coat today,a baby blue duffel coat,I feel a little like Paddington Bear!

^I love Paddington! I just got my niece a Paddington-book for her 2nd birthday

I have a Paddington bear coat too  but his coat and hat in that picture are really much more chic! I'm saving the picture for inspiration. Mine's quite big and has a defined squarish design.. I'm thinking of cropping it to mid-thigh and narrowing the shoulders..and removing the hood.

I want this:
Marc by Marc Jacobs

I love it because it's purple, long and has a cool tartan look to it.
