This is the one I was thinking about getting. Can be casual and dressy. It's on Urban Outfitters.

1) A black, wool 3/4 coat by Calvin Klein (simple and timeless, yet modern) if I have to look respectable...
2) A black North Face Nuptse down vest when I just don't give a damn (under a yellow Helly Hansen ski shell reinforced with kevlar if it's really cold, or I'm skiing)...
3) I've also got a black, nylon parka with leather trim by Barneys New York (store label) that I like to throw into the mix when I've grown weary of the first two... Very urban chic (i.e. - elegant, yet sort of badass at the same time for lack of a better word).
Variety is always good!
^_^

I would love love LOVE a Moncler. Is there any place to buy one online? Particularly the Berengere style in wool or nylon.

Does anyone have pics of the Balenciaga X Moncler jackets for this season? Did they even make them for men...? It sounds like something hyper exclusive and I wanna see pics just for the hell of it...

Coat

I like Theory coats for winter. Saks has a good collection. European brands Filippa K and Marc O'Polo do nice coats as well.

Oh, I'm getting chilly just reading this thread!

When I lived in New Hampshire, I had a full-length hooded down coat that kept me warm. I called it my nanook (after "Nanook of the North"). It was so cold there that I couldn't wear my earrings outside because the metal would freeze my ears!

Shearling and fur are very warm as well. Avoid "swing" coats, or any kind of coat that doesn't fit fairly closely over a heavy sweater; otherwise, you'll get too much cold air circulating.

Don't forget a good hat, scarf, and gloves. Furry hats are extremely warm. I don't think fur gloves are worth it, though; the fur gets matted. Polartec-lined ski gloves or mittens are the warmest. The best scarves are long cashmere that you can wind around your neck and face.

In France Old England is sort of silly, but they are ostensibly famous for their toggle coats - and I must say that they have an amazing array of colors. Check out their website: www.oldengland.fr

i have a burberry toggle coat.. its kinda heavy though..
i bought it when i was 11.. (soooo... that was about a decade ago )
it has a "shrunken" look because its kinda small on me now.. but i still like it :)

Bump...late October...it's getting chilly at night~~!

Those are some great points, Tinuvielberen! :flower:

What does everyone else wear?

On slightly cool, but not COLD days: My Yohji Yamamoto overcoat...not really that warm, it gives a slight bit of added warmth if i'm wearing a sweater and shirt underneath...more for style purposes.

On cold days: My Miu Miu hooded zip up jacket made of polyester/nylon with wool inserts and padding.

On FREEZING days: My Prada Sport black zip-up down jacket w/ stand up collar.

OH! That's MY thread :) Here is very, extremely cold in winter, exceptionally If you have no car! I haven't so usually I wear long dawn jacket and very stylish fur-hat with ear-flaps (I've bought it last year and looove it), the most painful theme for me is shoes, last winter I wore only tracking boots!!!! No leather, no high heels :( Only high-technology wear saves me in winter :) And it lasts from November till March!!! I hate winter, my wish No 1 is a car :)
