Yohji Yamamoto F/W 14.15 Paris

his mother might have told him to make some modern kaimaki (sort of warm nightwear which you'd sleep in too) which she could go out in. then he had to make a bit desperately something of a cool mediator between kaimaki and dotera (winter gown not as warm as kaimaki).

i also really like this look
http://imgbox.com/jdOBPRg1

i like the exaggerated pointed neckerchief-that is signature YY to me...
and i like the faux fur trim, and the attached mitts/mittens
i just like the exaggerated volume of the whole thing-
exaggerated collar, sleeves, skirt volume...etc...

it's like a dark snow princess...
:magic: ... :ninja:......

thanks for the review softgrey
now I guess I'm getting that part of his fairy tale.
just remembered he once had done kaimaki for the kitano movie.
and he did it, inspired by bunraku dolls.
then this time, "powerful dolls" as opposed to 'dolls' that were fleeting and fragile.
so metal chains instead of twisted strings, and even flowers that look rather artificial instead of little cherry blossoms as transient motif, and so on.

I see your yohji look in it, if you accept the extra volume of this particular collection.
the pointed neckerchief is also the signature of the showa-era cartoon heroes to me lol.

ah- yes...
that's more like it...
it starts to make more sense now, yes?
i like the big padded coats...
it does remind me of the sort of eskimo collection he did...
that has always been a big fave of mine...
the one with all the light coloured skins and the fur...
these shapes are similar...
so, in that sense, the volume is familiar and not so surprising...

*the YY cape that i bought in tokyo has a similar pointed tie at the neck...
that detail is what compelled me to buy it...
:P:P:P...

well- i always said that i wanted to look like a cartoon...
some things never change...
:lol::lol::lol:

:zorro:

thanks, runner, for the great image from "Dolls" and for the bunraku doll pics...
makes me want to watch that film once more...
:flower:

when you say "showa era"...
do you mean from the 60's-80's?
it's hard for a westerner like me to understand this...

it seems a number of these are hand painted on leather-
which makes them unique, one of a kind pieces...
demo...
who painted them...???

you are welcome softgrey
the skin, fur, and jacquard season ? it was gorgeous.

regarding showa, while the term is about the period from 1926 to 1989, it mostly refers to certain cultural characteristics and aesthetics from the period when used in that kind of context above.
something nostalgic rather than old, funny by today's standards but also somehow charming, typically like him on horseback below for example. what I had in my mind was the motorcyclist though.

...woah!!!

is that some kind of insect super hero?!
and some sort of samurai lone ranger...?
oh my!
what is that horse wearing?!
^_^

those images are amazing...sugoi desu ne~!
thank you runner...

thanks also for explaining about the showa era...
i know what it says in the definition of the showa era...
but that seems like a long period of time, so i just thought that perhaps there was a more narrow window of reference...
but maybe it's not such a long time if your country has a long history, unlike the US which is a relatively young nation...
still- it seems hard to define such a long and diverse period of time as one particular era...
i guess it's easier if you've lived through it yourself though...

thanks again for explaining...

the horse seems to be wearing a hachimaki.

hachimaki is a new word for me...
thanks!
as i was trying to remember it all i could think of is hamachi though...
...
imagine tying a fish around your head...
^_^

thanks for posting the ads...
they are really superb...
i love the graphics on the first one...
and the one where just her eyes are showing really draws you in and makes you understand the intention of the design of the high collars...

i continue to be enamored of the big mitts...
there seem to be several versions-
i like the big plain ones that are just attached to the coats like in the second look...
but i also really like the ones that zip around the edge and can be folded back to look like cuffs when they are not in use...
they seem so practical...
they keep you super warm, but when you want to use your hands you can easily remove either of them without fear of losing them, since they are permanently attached...
super cool and innovative, imho...

i love love love the pic of yohji adjusting the models look with all the staff around him...
it's a lovely image and wonderful peek at a real moment...

thanks runner dear~!

it would be possible to put on eel like a hachimaki around your head, though maybe it's impossible for eel to wear a hachimaki in reality.
