Yohji Yamamoto

i got a chance to watch the Y-3 documentary- 'This Is My Dream'

the one thing that really struck me was Yohji saying that he wants people to wear his clothing...
in his broken English he said - 'I want WEAR'...
*it's like a recording on repeat in my brain*

so I went in my closet and cut the tags off a Yohji skirt that had been hanging in my closet for more than one year and I wore it...
and I will wear everything as much as possible...
I will do whatever Yohji says...
I WILL WEAR...
^_^...

:p

his clothes alone could be as pointless as jellyfish washed up on the beach.
you need to let them swim in the air on you.
they need wear.

they need wear...

fantastic!...
thanks for all the vids MMM...
they had a lot of them in the Tate exhibit but it was hard to stand there and really look and look the way i wanted because other people were also waiting to look...
it's great to be able to peruse them again and again...

thanks for posting his artwork runner...
I just finished reading his book- MY DEAR BOMB...
it wasn't what i thought it would be...
i think i need to read it again---the translation is not easy to absorb...
it's not that different to the way Yohji speaks english... there are spaces left for the reader to absorb and understand and think about his statements...
it's almost obtuse -- poetic and purposefully difficult to understand...
*almost like the beautiful white dress posted above...^_^
(that would be a good wedding dress, except that the dress could easily overshadow the bride in this case...)

I see the paintings with new eyes now...:glare:
and i was right all along...
it's not just that i think Yohji's designs are sexy...
making sexy clothes are what Yohji always intended...
the book is just a confirmation of what the clothes have been saying all along, if one only understands the language they are speaking...

"The clothes cannot lie..."

thank you for posting softgrey
you look really great.
yohji and his dress, coat, hat must be very happy.

80's..who doesn't love a dress w/ a hood? (src: rarevintage.com)

omg- i LOVE that hooded knitted kaftan!......
thanks eugenius~!

thanks also to runner for the yohji pic...
he always looks very relaxed and naturally at home in Paris...

one never feels self conscious wearing his clothing in Paris either...
i confess that i purchased my first piece of Yohji while in Paris...
***
and i still regret not purchasing his Pom Pom jacket while in Paris another time...
i don't think many of them were produced and i have never seen it again...
but at least i did get to try it on...
:p

he says he used to have a walk in that park as a young designer fresh out of bunka, at a loss.

following the hooded knit dress and the pompom jacket, what I guess has to come back here is this material from F/W 94 pour homme.
the context here if anyone is interested

haha...
yohji is a bit of a clown...
quite a sense of humour...thanks runner...:flower:

i guess those do all go together...
it's definitely a thread throughout his work that pops up here and there...
the clown or court jester...
charlie chaplin, once again...
:p

i love the boots on the roof...
took me a minute to realize what is was...
i guess it's a skylight that the models are standing on...
very cool...
...

checking those '94 menswear collections was great...
legendary, yes!...
'84 was legendary as well...
makes me want to look at 2004 to see if something special happened that year as well...
:D
