If you possibly recognize these lyrics:

sha na na na, na na na na, sha na na na na

Autumn turns to winter and then winter turns to spring,
its not just a season to know its goes for everything.
clouds can turn to rain and then it just might snow
You gotta take lesson from mother nature and if you do you'll know.

[chorus]
Well its time to change
then its time to change
move by the time come along for the ride, dont you see
when its time to change you've got to rearrange
move your heart to what your gonnabe.
sha na na na na na na sha na na na na na

day by day its hard to see the changes you've been through
a little bit of living a little bit of growing all adds up to you
every boys a man inside
a girls a women too
and if you wanna reach your destiny its what you've got to do

[chorus]
Well its time to change
when its time to change
move by the time come along for the ride, dont you see
when its time to change you've got to rearrange
move your heart to what your gonna be.
sha na na na na na na na, sha na na na na na

[chorus]
Well its time to change
when its time to change you've got to rearrange
move your heart to what your gonna be.
sha na na na na na na na, sha na na na na

here it is...it will totally take you back.

You thought Olivia Newton John's song "Physical" was
about aerobics.

 You mean...it's not? Seriously though, my mom used to get so mad at me for going around the house singing this and I couldn't figure out why. This song and
'Bad Girls" by Donna Summer. I just thought it was about girls who dressed really cool like the girls on her album cover. You know the cover with sexy girls under a street lamp and a close up of a guys hand holding a wad of cash. I was so clueless. :innocent:

I definitely remember some of these things even though I'm more of an 80s child.
And speaking of Jem, Jem and the Holograms was my first band poster.
Aren't the time to change lyrics from the Brady Bunch?

I was pretty horrified when I looked at that album cover years later and realized what it meant. I memorized the lyrics to every song on that album!

Oh my god...yes to most of these, and I was born in 1977.

I think the 1970s lingered in the Nebraskan hinterlands well into the 1980s.

The Dr. Kit was what I had fervently wished for for Christmas when I was 6. Because back then I wanted to be a veterinarian when I grew up, and I needed a doctor kit to keep my teddy bears and toy horse healthy!

oh soft, thanks so much for this thread! hilarious! being german, i don't remember all of those things you originally posted ... but still a LOT! leif garrett must have been an international thing.
did you have the fabulous captain future animated series in the US? i had a major crush on him, he was THE superhero of superheros! and he was super stylish, too!

Your hairstyle was described as having 'wings' or 'feathers' and you kept it 'pretty'
with the comb you kept in your back pocket.
When you walked, the 'wings' flapped up and down, looked like you were gonna 'take off'.

Aw, i cant see the pics but i totally can relate to some of these. As im not from the US, there are some things on the list that i don't know what is, but i laughed out loud when reading some of these:

You spent hours in your backyard on your metal swing set with the trapeze. The swing set tipped over at least once. LOL, yeah!

I totally recorded from the radio by holding my recorder up to the speakers haha.

And i had nightmares from watching Fantasy island LOL

Great post! Id love to see the pics

This list is too funny! I passed it along to my mom, who got a kick out of some of the things on here as well--she proudly wore her Dorothy Hamill haircut back in the day (along with virtually every other girl in her school!), and one of her good friends had the 'wing' hairstyle. And, though I don't see it on the list, one of my mom's yearbook photographs shows her wearing colorful tinted eyeglasses. :P

This song and 'Bad Girls" by Donna Summer. I just thought it was about girls who dressed really cool like the girls on her album cover. You know the cover with sexy girls under a street lamp and a close up of a guys hand holding a wad of cash. I was so clueless. :innocent:

I thought the Village People were men who just liked to dress up, and that Evel Knievel was Elvis in a second career (it was the white outfit).

oh yeah...
i totally thought the village people just had cool outfits...
*of course, all i cared about was the clothes...
no idea about the subtext...

even the name Queen didn't clue me in to them either...
....
i was so innocent and naive...

and i really like that donna summer album cover as well...
i completely wanted to dress like that when i got older...
...

oh...such a time of innocence...
:P

Great topic!!

I miss my Holly Hobbie tin lunchbox...

And my favorite multicolored patchwork sheepskin vest......worn with bellbottoms with little rounded pockets in front...and yes, Kickers...(explains a lot about my style now)

And listening to "Free to Be You and Me" which sort of totally freaked me out but I knew all the lyrics... (explains a lot about my values now...)

And I was crazy about Raggedy Ann and Andy.
I thought I was in love with Luke Skywalker :ninja:
Oh, and Davy from the Monkees...:ninja:

funny how so many of these things come back...

there's a smurf movie now...
a new charlies angels series...
bell bottoms or flares are big again...
platforms and wedges go with the flares...

i am waiting for gauchos to make the big comeback...
Or as i like to call them...culottes!...
:P
