Getting a little garden started on the main balcony:

I had so much trouble getting everything sorted out because I'd never lived in a modern building before but I'm getting there. My housemate and I have been here three months and as you can see, I still need to put up some paintings and she needs to get rid of some of her boxes LOL.

A mix of Mid-Century modern, Shabby Chic, and Flea Market style. Nothing really look that cohesive yet, but I figure if I just stick to buying things I truly love, it will all come together someday.

^ But perhaps it will be someday ;) I like to think of people being here after me, just as they were before me.

The people right before didn't take care of anything, they were determined not to spend anything on the house if they could possibly help it. Before I even moved in I had to have the kitchen sink replumbed. They had everything crammed so chockful of crap that you couldn't even see what was wrong. The house was like, And now I'd like you to take care of this ... and this ... and this ...

But finally I got everything seen to & it calmed down ;) The house has this very sweet protective quality. People walk in the door and say, So cozy!

I really love this home in Ireland that was built from scratch by the owner, an architect. The interior echoes the exterior, and the decoration is very simple, playful, colorful and crafty. It looks like a fun place to live for both the kids and mom and dad. ^_^

i like to use free surfaces by filling them with a variety of old objects, jewelry pieces, ephemera, etc. for kind of a random-seeming, but in actuality contrived, style

for instance:

^ I like what you've done there ... very simple, but effective :flower: I like the way you've used black ...

I would go with colorful bedding, pictures, paint walls your favorite colors and use a colorful rug on top of carpet.

My style is quite artsy and funky. I don't have pictures though.

J likes red, as you can see here. This is our living room...

We are on the lookout for another appartement though and when it's time to move, I hope that I can persuade J to get another sofa for us...red is jst too dominant a colour for me, when it comes to larger furniture.

it is a very 'masculine race car' kind of red.. if you can't convince him.. maybe try to re-style it with throws, pillows, paint on the wall, a different sofa table etc in other words tone it down a notch or two.. Dizzydi ?

^ That's what I was thinking, too, an ivory throw covering most of the red ... though I can't see a picture for some reason

if there's no way he's agreeing to a new couch and your have to re-style it..
I'd stay away from white and black and angular/square edged furniture..because that will keep the original vibe of the piece..

I'd go with organic pieces..warm woods (teak), muted dusty colors, possibly kelim pillows/rug.. I could see the sofa turning a bit marroccan..

Or maybe make it more 'fun' by bombarding it will throws and pillows in 'pang' colors ? That would take the 'race car' edge of it..

new house for me.....which means new furniture :woot:
..this time a very different style to my last apartment which was very modern. this house suits a more traditional style but still contemporary.. lots of earthy tones and mixed textures.. i don't know the proper terms! i think some shabby chic pieces will look really nice too.. i'm not going to rush.. just doing one thing at a time.. first came the couch & armchair! and i'm really happy with them..

sorry for crappy cell phone pictures..
