Your Nails

I usually get an Americn Manicure on my hands and a really loud color on my toes....

i find that for girls in the US there is absolutely NO excuse to have I M M A C U L A T E nails. manicures/pedicures are so cheap that noone can really escape them..

in NY i had mine done for 10 dollars with a shoulder massage included:magic:

over here i pay 45 EUROS !!!!!!!! and i still get them done..

there is nothing worse than unmantained nails IMO (and teeth) :yuk: :magic:

Depends if I dont have time to go have them dont or if I'm just doing nothing that week except classes I paint them myself, plus I find it relaxing and great "me" time. :flower:

Other than that I get em done...

For the past month though I haven't been able to paint or have them done I've been so busy..

And I'm one with a reputation for absolute nails...

I'm gonna get them done for prom though..just mani and pedi..I never put acrylics..they feel weird and ruin the real nails :yuk:

I dont need them anyways, my friends and I did a envy survey and put which of our friends bodyparts do we envy...my most enviable part was my hands, feet and nails.

Huh. There is an excuse--some of us do a lot of messy work with our hands that would ruin a manicure, no matter how inexpensive it is to have one done!

Yes, well... Lets just say I wouldn't want leyla to scrutinise my grooming habits. :P

And I mean that in the nicest possible way, leyla; you seem to pride yourself on being perfect any time; that's commendable. :flower:

 uhm , not too sue how i should understand that.. cos im certainly NOT always perfect. . far from it. i just set myself standards like evryone else does.
i might often look unpolished from the outside, but there are a few things one does for themselves which make them feel better.... one of them is having my nails done. (another one having my dentist work on my teeth )
i remember when i was small my bro always teased me when i had paint or dirt on my hands or nails from kindergarten days. that stuck in my head and ever since im paranoid i guess

but to tell you the truth, yes i do get disgusted if im eating with someone and i have to look at :yuk: nails... but i only thought thats normal.. if its not, then its only me. :flower:

I like subtle colour. At the moment, I've got Opi's Hopelessly in Love on my toes. Pretty pink toes. I love it!

Now I feel like I'm in very good company! Thanks, Leyla! :flower:

leyla, I also don't want to see filthy finger nails at dinner...

I think I'm being intimidated by your posts about toe/finger nails...

Intimidated in a good way, because they make me take another look at what I have.

I have my nails painted in the yellow colour

I like that wild yellow color. I would wear that in the wintertime when I wasn't doing so much gardening and house painting.

How do you folks keep your nailpolish decent when you have to do stuff like wash the dishes or have a lot of hand-sewing to do? I paint my fingernails in the winter time, sometimes, and it always is scraped, chipped, and dented the next day, and peeling around the edges. It seems like I always bung it up...get LiquidPaper stuck on it at work, get ink on it while drawing, nick it with the vegetable peeler, or somehow otherwise destroy it.

I keep my fingernails super-super short so I don't catch them on stuff when I am working or snag fabric when I am doing a lot of hand-detail sewing. You would think it would be hard to mess them up so badly when they are painted, but I just can't seem to keep nailpolish nice for more than a few minutes.

Therefore it probably looks a WHOLE lot better when I don't wear nail-polish, though I sometimes like the color for a change of pace, even though it looks frustratingly awful moments later.

you are right. cos chipped nailvarnish is def worse than no varnish.

but i do alot a lot of washing. whether its the dishes.. but usually my clothes..
.or when im simply cleaning the house...
what i mean is that my polish chips too if i dont pay too much attention.. even when i do pay attention it chips.
so every 2/3 days i apply new polish. by polish i mean color OR clear..
and try to wear gloves when doing housework.. that should help

but to get a lasting varnish, it is vital to also nourish the nail itself. cream, cuticle cream, warm olive oil, nail strengthener ... all helps :flower:

I don't trust those places ever since I read a newspaper about how cheap nail salons cut corners by not properly sterilizing the equipment. :yuk:

I don't always do my nails since I am absolutely hopeless at applying it, but right now I've got Revlon's "blushed" on my fingers and Rimmel's "magenta" on my toes. B)

I do a lot of hard work :brows: with my hands, and my polish stays immaculate...

Hey! dirty minded I didn't mean that  :shifty: or I did...

I've only had about four manicures in my life, one of which was today. :P For my step-sister's birthday, I gave her a special outing: manicures, lunch, and a movie. It was kind of an expensive thing for me (even though the lunch was taken care of by my mom because we were supposed to have a picnic and couldn't), but it was great. She's worth it. I've never had a sister before (especially a younger one), and now that I have one I'm determined to be good at it. Yes, I know that I don't have to spend money to be a 'good' older sister, but I wanted to do something special. She's ten, so the manicure thing seemed like a fun sort of treat (her second ever).

Anyway, I almost never do my nails (and in fact often forget about them, although I'm trying). When I do, though, I like very sheer or subtle colors on my hands and often (during the summer) pretty colors on my toes.

As to leyla's comment about the price of manicures: What if that is expensive to some of us? I know that I'm just sixteen, but there are plenty of people in my situation. If you have them done twice a week, that's $260 a year ($312 a year with the tip). For some of you, that's pocket change, but I can't afford them. For $312, I could get some great new clothes or get tickets to a few Broadway shows, not to mention the far more practical uses. I don't mean to be annoying, but money is more of an issue for some of us.

Keep in mind that I'm one of six siblings/stepsiblings and college tuition bills are looming. Therefore, take the above with a grain of salt because money is kind of on my mind right now. Plus, it came out much preachier than I meant it to be! Not what I meant, quite...
