Your Nails

That is a valid point, though. I know I can think of a dozen things offhand that I would probably spend a tenner on first. For me, as stated earlier, a manicure would be wasted, because I would only be out digging in the garden or painting a wall or working on my bike or doing something else horribly messy and ruin the nailpolish and tear up my skin and get all dirty anyway.

For the low-income tomboy like me, the best nail treatment is a nailbrush and some liquid soap. A good pair of clippers doesn't hurt either!

Thanks, AsYouLikeIt, I'm glad you understood what I meant.

My mom actually got me a kit from avon.. it comes with these moon shaped sticker things to help you get the top part straight.. but most times i wing it and it comes out pretty damn good...

i find that for girls in the US there is absolutely NO excuse to have I M M A C U L A T E nails. manicures/pedicures are so cheap that noone can really escape them..

in NY i had mine done for 10 dollars with a shoulder massage included:magic:

over here i pay 45 EUROS !!!!!!!! and i still get them done..

there is nothing worse than unmantained nails IMO (and teeth) :yuk: :magic:
 Leyla, your post certainly inspired me to take care that I have I M M A C U L A T E nails  I did them myself. Burgundy on the toes and just a plain clear polish on the hands. :flower:

:order: attention everyone. let us stand in a line with our hands out so that Leyla can do an inspection  j/k... that would be a funny sight though! :P

from Ellgirl.com
Paula Abdul's manicure appointment turned into a nightmare when the American Idol judge had to have her nail removed. "I just got a manicure and they punctured me," she explained to Entertainment Tonight. "It's throbbing. I had surgery to remove the entire nail—the infection was too close to the bone." Let's see if the injury puts a damper on Paula's usual sunny mood—we know we'd like to see her really fight with Simon tonight!

another traumatizing nail salon story

I always have my nails done. I just feel rough and unpolished (no pun intended) when I don't have them looking nice. Maybe it stems from my childhood, when I always had my nails done because I had photoshoots and beauty pageants every weekend. Or maybe it's just cuz my natural nails don't grow on their own, so when I have my natural nails my fingers look very short and stumpy.

Anyway, I keep my fingernails at a sport length because long ones look horrible on me, square with a slight rounded edge, and French manicure/pedicure on fingers and toes, as always. I'm due for a fill-in in a couple days .

I get mine done at the same salon I get my hair done, and I haven't had a problem yet. My manicurist is really good at making my acrylics thin and very natural-looking, since I hate that obvious 3 inch fake nails look with like bright orange polish . I almost never go to one of those walk-in places unless I can't get an appt at my normal place. I dunno, the Asian shops just scare me, I've never had a good experience with them and I end up leaving with bleeding cuticles or something because they're so rough and wanna get you outta there so fast. At a hair salon it's more expensive, but it's worth it if you're not gonna have your nails rot off .

This is a bit off the subject, but why do people insist on CLIPPING THEIR NAILS on the subway or the train?

It's so disgusting? Anyone else encounter this ever?

i understand you too. :flower:

as anything else, this is also a relative subject...
but to me hygiene (and this is part of it) is by far more important than owning designer stuff

basically my point is that keeping your appearance neat and appealing is more important than the clothes we try to hang on ourselves..

picturing a beautiful girl with awful nails and toes (and ive seen some bad bad examples :yuk: ) is not what i like to see... thats all. nothing more nothing less.. :ninja: :P

now whether you do your nails at home or at the salon.. doesnt matter i guess... as long as they look as good as they can

peace B) and love

When I don't paint my nails I make sure to keep them short, clean and moisturized with good handcream. Usually that's enough to keep my nails neat and tidy.

Once, I saw a woman tweezing her armpits in public on Ellis Island. She was right out in the open, too--just sitting under this tiny little tree during the summer and casually plucking away. :yuk: People can be so gross.

Leyla, I understand your point, too. Hygiene is very important. I was just commenting on the bit about the "cheap" $10 nail jobs. By all means, everyone, keep yourselves clean! :P Cleanliness is crucial, but manicures are not necessarily required treatments. :flower: That's all.

There is a supervisor at my work who clips his in his office, and we can all hear it. Click. Click. Click. Nauseating. Nothing else makes that sound, so you have to know what he is doing. Eeeww! I just hope he gets all of those into the trash can.

I am obsessed with nails and toes. I have never had them done, but I have done them myself both acrylic, gel or neither. I love nails and sometimes wish I would have gone to beauty school..haha
However, I now have a 7 month old baby and barely have time to find matching clothes in the morning. my nails are short and clean & lets not mention my toe nails. I always try to keep them painted bright red or pink, but havent done that in a while, needless to say, ugh...and believe me I am a true critic of nails and toes myself, I gross out on my own feet...haha.

I love having French manicures ( I'm French.....lol!) but some awesome colors for any manicure or pedicure are : O.P.I.- Coney Island Cotton Candy
or Cover Girl- Dusty Rose-love that color!

I confess. I have never gotten a manicure done. However, I do keep my nails scrupulously clean and neat. I am a sculpturist with clay and if I get a manicure I can almost guarentee you that by the next day or even sooner, the polish would be scratched, chipped, dinged which is a shame because I love pretty nails and unlike gardening I work with clay 7/365. I do keep my nail short. Squarish with a little rounded edge because there is nothing more awful to me than fingernail indents in my clay  . Or worst, clay grit under your nails, ouch! I do however get a pedicure about once every month and mantain it till my next appointment . Right now I have a french manicure on my toes in a melon shade with a slightly brighter tangerine color.

Back on topic, I usually get french manicure, or red polish.:P

I've never had a manicure or pedicure because I've always been dirt poor. Though I do a good enough job myself that everyone thinks I've either had them done, or have fake nails.

Only thing I have a problem with is that the nails on my index finger always seem to crack on the edge that is facing my thumbs (if that makes sense). The crack happens whether I have nail polish or not and it is always over the pink part and so I have to chop my nail off and have it look like some animal bit it and tore it from my finger for a week (or at least until it's long enough to file). No other nails on my hands crack, it is always only those two or one of them. Anybody know a solution or way to prevent this?

My nails grow insanely fast, it would be a waste of money for me to have manicures. And they cost about 454895690900569 kr anyway. I sometimes paint them with Chanel Ballerina, but that's rare.

My nails are wearing Zoya Indigo.

They want a new outfit and are deciding between Zoya Paige or Raven.

I started getting manicures when I was 10. I bit my nails and got silk wraps every 2 weeks. Eventually I stopped biting them. Sort of over the top I guess but I was sort of my mother's mini me. I do have really nice nails now.
