Lucy Lui would of been great. She was great in Kill Bill.
Agreed, I like her as a mainstream actress, but she would have by no means fit the role. She's highly Americanized and wouldn't worked with the image of the character in the least... The fact that she's Asian doesn't mean she can immediately play anyone of that ethnicity.sassandviolet said:Are you kidding?!? Lucy Liu would've been terrible, that would've just made the movie SO mainstream and cheesy. Anyways I like Zhang Ziyi's acting, she was wonderful in both Crouching Tiger and Hero.
Oh yes I saw her in TLS. She was great..casualchic said:Zhang Zhiyi makes me cringe - she has a very limited acting range and always seems to act with her chin (1 jut, incredulous, 2 juts, determination.. etc.
She may have been typecast in all her past films so I'll withhold my full opinion til I see her, but I really doubt that she'll be able to convey that depth of character and graceful determination that Sayuri evoked in the book. Zhiyi does determination, yeah, but it's always a slightly childish, petulant determination that would totally undercut the geisha character :/
I prefer Koyuki (The Last Samuri) BY FAR - she'd be perfect, I adore how much inner strength she conveys
but lucy liu potrayed a half-japanese half-chinese character in kill bill, while zhang ziyi will have to portray someone she is 0% of.fujiema said:lucy liu is chinese but she portrayed japanese girl in Kill Bill.
from the make up to the hair done, i almost forgot her original nationality is.
