1960s : Fashions of a Tradition-Changing Decade

c. 1960's Print Jersey Silk Gown!
Ms. Dupont had loads of gowns! You may not need as many as she did, so I suggest you consider this gown for a possible "hem up". Would look great at any length.. mid calf, just under knee, just above knee, mini, or even as a tunic length to wear over pants! The silk jersey fabric of bright blues, pinks, green, navy, gold and whites is fabulous.... and the cutouts at the neckline and all the way down each sleeve are awesome. Just look at the close-up of the sleeve.. and it's lined in a minty silk if you catch a glimpse. Metal zipper back. Elastic cuff.

c. 1960's TANNER of North Carolina by Dorothy Cox, Polly's Shop, Fishers Island, NY Turquoise and Magenta Silk Print Blouse!
Lots of labels for this blouse! Could have an Hawaiian label as it has that tropical feel... yet works great to spruce up any city outfit as well. Get colorful this year! We've had black for too long!!! Excellent condition. Measures up to 46" bust, however all these blouses have small backs, so I think it's best for about a size 8/10, 16" across back between armseams, 25" long from back neck to hem. Sleeves are 3/4 sleeve length (looks longer in photo, but wears just under the elbow!).

c. 1960's Floral Organdy Gown!
I've recently seen a new Leonard, Paris gown that supposedly sold for $4500 and the coloration and floral design was incredibly similar to this 1960's gown! So what's old is new again! A voile/organdy type material in pinks, turquoise, greens and golds and lined in white. Back zipper. Has a white lace hemtape that I know Lilly Pulitzer uses, but there is no designer label. I'm going to assume that it's actually a POSH by Jay Anderson dress since the neckline matches another dress with that label. The Jo Robinson Inc., Delaware label is the store where Ms. Dupont bought most of her clothes! Measures: 39" bust, up to 30" waist, up to 40" hips, 58" long from shoulder to hem. So pretty to wear to a summer wedding! Add a belt if you wish!

c. 1960's Aqua/Turquoise Sari Silk Dress with Woven Gold Embroidery!
Hard for me to name the color of this fabric as it is nearly a changeable look, but I will just call it aqua/turquoise silk edged in woven golden embroidery. Simple design with square neckline and piped waist. The perfect little dress for any Spring/Summer occasion if you, like me, are tired of "the little black dress". It's time to lead the world from black & white into color! Measures: 36" bust, 30" waist, up to 42" hips, 25" long from waist to hem. Side zipper.

c. 1960's ROSSINO-ANGELA Turquoise Silk Satin Gown with Flocked Velveteen Flowers!
Ever wonder what the rich women wore in the 1960s? When the rest of us were wearing torn jeans and fringed leather, the socialites were wearing gorgeous, vibrant gowns like this. Brilliant turquoise silk satin printed gown covered with hot pink/purple flocked velveteen flowers. Bell shaped lower sleeves, "u" neckline to allow for a necklace, and wide waistband belt. Back zipper. Silk lined.

c. 1960's Floral Silk gown with Appliqué on Bodice!
Gorgeous aqua color silk. Just an all-around pretty summer gown. Not overly fancy.. and if you so desire, you could easily turn this on into a short dress, or ankle length to wear with espadrilles. Excellent condition. Silk lined. Feels good on! Sleeveless. Huge floral print with matching appliqué on bodice.

c. 1960's Thai Silk Striped Evening Gown from the DUPONT Estate!
I love this gown! Part of the large collection of custom designed gowns for the Dupont socialite (many other of her gowns & dresses are in the Special collection category on this website). She obviously had a love of thai silk, as this is just one of many gowns she had made from this fabric. I just thought this so cute! Love that stiffened peaked bodice with flat bow, and then just a classic princess sundress shape in hot pink / blue / purple horizontal stripes. Lined in hot pink silk! Back metal zipper.
