2011 Academy Awards

I thought The Town should have gotten an adapted screenplay nomination, but other than that, pretty much what I thought.

Now I get to spend one month anticipating the disappointment I'll feel when Natalie Portman wins.

i never seen the fighter, but is it weird that Christian Bale was nominated for supporting, and Mark not nominated for lead ?

i could understand the lead being nominated and the supporting not.. but the supporting nominated and the lead not seems kinda funny to me :rofl:

I'm not surprised AT ALL. Christian Bale stole the show... he was amazing, he must win the Oscar. Mark was fine, but his character in a way was a bit flat... Bale's character had so much range.

And Natalie MUST win the Oscar, too... she, too, was amazing.

I never seen the fighter so i cant judge any of the performances.. i just found it funny

I think natalie will get this oscar..
she got best actress for the GG and the Critics Choice didn't she ?

Yes, she did. Her performance lingers in my head everyday. I'm routing that she'll take home the coveted award, and be on the best dressed list. Critics Choice she wore Vionnet (cute/very Natalie) and Viktor&Rolf for GG's (beautiful but not gasp-worthy).

Hooray for Michelle Williams, all Winter's Bone noms and Exit Through The Gift Shop. I'm very surprised at no Best Director nom for Chris Nolan.

Don't get me wrong I liked Mila Kunis and etc in Black Swan but that film was really all about Portman, either way I hope she wins and I pretty much agree with all the nominations except for some, like usual...

I will be really surprised if Natalie doesn't get the Oscar and if Jesse doesn't get his. I haven't seen the Socail Network yet, but I heard nothing but good things about Jesse's performance. I'm rooting for him, I could be biased though, I adore him :crush::lol:

She wore Ferre at the Critics' Choice Awards, not Vionnet. I personally thought she was gasp-worthy in Viktor & Rolf.

the nominations were a little boring and predictable. and the winners seem to be even easier to predict... I hope they'll surprise us with some winnings. And I'm SO sad Andrew Garfield didn't get a nom. I loved his performance.

....I think everyone here (in Spain) hates Jesse einsenberg after his stupid statements! .. so I hope he doesn't win...ok, i know, this is reward his work as an actor but does not deserve to win someone ridiculously cocky and ignorant!

GO Bardem!

^ I agree. Everything was predictable with the nominations except for the snubs. Cannot believe that Nolan did not get nominated for best director for Inception!

Isn't this the third time Nolan got 'snubbed' from the Directors Oscar ?
Or did I read that wrong somewhere..

as for Jesse, I can see Andrew being the cocky arrogant guy, but is Jesse really like that ?
I don't watch interviews or anything with him, I just like his acting..

^ you read right. "Memento" "The Dark Knight" and "Inception" :(

wonder why he isn't getting any noms..
doesn't seem too fair
he seems to be a great director, but ill admit i didnt see any of those movies :ninja:

None of the nominations were a huge surprise, but I'm happy Michelle Williams, Hailee Steinfeld, Jacki Weaver, Deathly Hallows Part I, The Kings Speech, and True Grit got nominations!

I think a lot of people thought True Grit would get snubbed, because of the amount of Golden Globe nominations it received. Thank goodness it didn't! :D

Why do I always find the actual nominations reveal so anti-climatic?

The positives
1. JACKIE WEAVER - she was kind of losing steam there towards the end and I was getting worried for her, but SHE MADE IT!!! My favorite Best Supporting Actress performance of the year. I know she has NO SHOT at winning, but yay for a nod.
2. John Hawkes - I took him out of my predictions at the last minute but I'm really happy he made it too. He didn't really figure into the race until SAG nominations (and that was it for him I believe) so this was a pleasant surprise as well.
Well those are the only positive surprises that I have. I'm glad Natalie, James, Jesse, Colin, Christian, Amy, Melissa, etc got nominated but they were all LOCKS so whatever.

The negatives
1. ANDREW GARFIELD - are you serious right now??? Can't believe they snubbed the best performance of the movie (no disrespect to Jesse) and second best supporting actor performance of the year (behind Bale), that's just foul.
2. Mila Kunis - poor thing, it really looked like she was going to make it for a while there. If it was between her and Jackie Weaver for the last spot, I'm glad latter made it, but still, I'm sad because I don't know if Mila will get this good a chance again.
3. Christopher Nolan - Inception is not even in my top 5 of the year, but what does this guy have to do to get some love? Three nominations from DGA and not ONE Academy nomination for Directing. Plus Inception was ALL ABOUT DIRECTING. Ugh.
4. Ryan Gosling - how the heck do you nominate Michelle Williams and forget about Ryan? The movie was about them and they were equally great in it, I just don't understand one putting her at number one and not him. Second time he gets so close too.
5. Hailee Steinfeld - I'm not upset that she got nominated, I'm ANGRY because she got nominated in the wrong category in the worst category fraud in Oscars history. And had she been placed in the proper category Mila would've made it. UGH!!!!

Finally, The King's Speech is starting to royally (pun intended) piss me off. It was a good movie, but 12 nomination while Black Swan only gets 5? I call a BS (not Black Swan) on that.

I'm kinda surprised that King's Speech is gaining huge momentum right now. Did it have amazing perfomances from Firth and Rush? Without a doubt and they both deserve the Oscar. Was it a memorable, amazing, will never forget movie? Nah..
And I think, though I hope I'll be proven wrong that the ''surprise'' this year will be KS winning best movie. I'd be reaaally pissed at that! TSN for the win!!:D
