2011 Academy Awards

I'm a huge fan of Black Swan and I love Mila but I really don't think her role is "oscar worthy". Yeah she could get away with it at the Golden Globes but Oscars? I don't know.

But hey, Penelope Cruz got nominated and won for Vicky Christina Barcelona so anything is possible.

Penelope in VCB was one of my favourite performances of all time. I don't understand how anything could possibly be wrong with it.

My final predictions (some risks/wishful thinking included )

Best Actor
1. Colin Firth, The King's Speech
2. Jesse Eisenberg, The Social Network
3. James Franco, 127 Hours
4. Robert Duvall, Get Low
5. Mark Wahlberg, The Fighter
(alt. Jeff Bridges, True Grit)

I saw that film two years ago and am wondering is it possible for it to be up for any awards?? It really was wonderfully made, and acted.

Oh too late, they're out already! Would've been exciting though!

I'll be back with my thoughts later! :)

^Mila Kunis provided some much needed light relief in Black Swan, I thought. She impressed me a lot more than Natalie who I found a little one dimensional.

Mila wasn't bad at all, I thought she was quite good. It's just that there are maybe 60 supporting actress performances better from 2010. The only one of the nominated five who deserves to be there is Jacki Weaver.

Portman is also overrated, so you'll get no argument from me there. Tilda Swinton in I Am Love was better than everyone nominated.

I'm so happy for Jesse Eisenberg. Glad he got the credit he deserved!

Overall pretty dissappointing list of nominations. Jeff bridges didn't really need to nominated, he already has one . Ryan Gosling should have been nominated in his place, I think. And no nomination for Chris Nolan who directed Inception is a joke:angry::doh:. and none for andrew garfield:o:huh::cry:

Not trying to be the evil party pooper but could someone please enlighten me as to how this is true? No doubt, he portrayed his character. However, I think that is largely with the help of a brilliantly written character and his disposition to talk rapidly and scholastically. :ninja::ninja::innocent:

I'm so happy to see Annette nominated. I know most of you think Julianne Moore had the better performance (her character had more range, I can see that), but to me Annette Bening was outstanding. :)

Woo hoo! The King's Speech with 12 nominations. That makes it the movie with the most nominations, and therefore the most likely to win the BP prize. I haven't seen True Grit, but I get the feeling that I'm not gonna like it (I'm very anti-remakes). I haven't seen Blue Valentine either, but now I wanna see it. Also, I'm glad that John Hawkes and his co-star Jennifer Lawrence got a nomination. Overall, I'm happy with most of the nominations.

i never seen the fighter, but is it weird that Christian Bale was nominated for supporting, and Mark not nominated for lead ?

i could understand the lead being nominated and the supporting not.. but the supporting nominated and the lead not seems kinda funny to me :rofl:

has natalie won an oscar before ?

That is like the dumbest statement ever. Excuse me and don't take it personal because it's not, but who cares if he already has an Oscar? A good performance is a good perfomance and should be rewarded just that.

Boring nominations, really. It's the same 6 or 7 movies that get nominated. Natalie will get the Oscar because she wants it the most, obviously. Inception got snubbed, Ryan Gosling got snubbed, but Michelle got nominated so yay! Tron Legacy got snubbed for music and visuals (visualy, this movie was outstanding. p*rn for the senses)
And yes at Garfield and Kunis not nominated because I'd be pissed if that had happened.

Colour, nope. It would be travesty if she had won one before.

lets all be thankful justin timberlake didnt get nominated.
that would have been just... there are no words

It IS kind of weird that someone who plays the title character in a movie wasn't nominated whereas three of the supporting actors from that movie were. But to be honest, I wasn't impressed with Mark Wahlberg's performance. The supporting performances (Bale, Adams, and Leo) outshone his performance. IMO he doesn't deserve any award nomination for that performance.

And Natalie was nominated for an Oscar once before (for the movie Closer where she played a stripper) but she didn't win.

I never seen the fighter so i cant judge any of the performances.. i just found it funny

I think natalie will get this oscar..
she got best actress for the GG and the Critics Choice didn't she ?
