2011 Academy Awards

I don't want TSN to win best picture..:ermm:
I feel.. much like Facebook, the movie is overrated now..
I want to see Black Swan take it..

^TSN is overrated but still better than King's Speech :D And even though Black Swan is my second favorite movie of the year I think its esoteric, arty and sexual atmosphere is probably not going to win many votes from the older Academy members. It just feels more private too, if you know what I mean and doesn't give a ''OSCAR'S BEST MOVIE OF THE YEAR'', universally appealing kind of vibe. It's certainly not for everyone :flower: But then again, if a misanthropic and emotionless film like ''No Country For Old Men'' won in the past, then my whole point is rendered useless

Natalie Portman seems to be the favourite to win, but Annette Bening has been nominated several times before and I don't think she has ever won, so it might go to her.

Meryl Streep has been nominated like 11 times and never won yet..

WHAT? Meryl has won TWICE already. Once in Best Supporting Actress in 79 for Kramer v. Kramer and again for Best Actress in 82 for Sophie's Choice. People just like to go off with histrionics every time she's nominated because apparently she must win every time she gets nominated.

I didn't know she won to be honest.
I only started watching the Oscars about 4 years ago and only knew she was nominated a bunch of times without getting anything.. I didn't know she won anything almost 30 years ago..

sorry.. :ermm:

so its been about 30 years since she won something.. and since then shes been nominated a bunch of times, so my point can still be a little valid in that just because Annette has been nominated a bunch of times, doesn't mean shes going to win it..

^Sorry, I didn't mean to sound obnoxious. I was just being dramatic.

There are though people who've been nominated more than Anette and haven't won yet (tbh, 4 times, now, is not THAT many times). A few years ago, Peter O'Toole, a legend in Hollywood, was nominated for Venus. He was on his 7th or 8th nomination and he still lost to Forrest Whitaker. Paul Newman won on his 8th (I believe) nomination back in the 80s and he was a superstar. So I think being nominated for 4 is not going to win Annette that many points.

No. This is her third nomination, she was nominated previously in the same category for Junebug (LOVE that performance) and Doubt. She was really snubbed for Best Actress for Enchanted.

I saw Blue Valentine today and honestly, I think Ryan's performance was just ridiculously over the top. Michelle Williams was great, but I'm not getting the hype around Ryan.

I would say that nothing she's done in the last 30 years has been as good as Sophie's Choice or Kramer vs. Kramer. Not that she's done crappy movies, but those movies set the bar pretty high. She's not a good example because even though she's had such a long career she still peaked pretty early.

But yeah, I agree that Natalie is probably going to win over Annette, even though I'm pulling for Annette. I think only the biiiiig name actors/directors who many feel were robbed at least once get the Sorry We Screwed Up Last Time Oscar.

I'm so not excited about the Oscars this year and it's totally weird cause it's been my thing since I was like 5.

The noms are all over the place. I haven't wanted to watch The Social Network but I suppose I better now. All I care is that Colin wins cause he deserves it for this performance.

Has everyone seen this promo pic of Anne and James -

^ It would've been very MTV Awards - esque if James won Best Actor.

Soo, when's SAG Awards? I usually loved their results.

AHAHAHHA My thought exactly. It'd been very exciting though if they meet again! Third time is a charm! :magic::rofl:

i hope melissa leo wins lol the problem with hailee is that it was not a supporting role. they put her here to have a nomination.

why are anne and james hosting ?
they both seem very bland to me :ninja:
and thats not referring to their acting skills btw..
