2011 Academy Awards

I enjoy the Drama categories of the Globe nominees, but the Comedy side is ABSOLUTELY DISGUISING AND LAUGHABLE (I mean both in tv and film).

Poor Courteney Cox and Cougar Town. :(

Three nominations for The Tourist?
Three nominations for Burlesque?
Three nominations for Alice in Wonderland?
Two nominations for Johnny Depp?

Embarrassing.

^But you can't deny Modern Family is good, no? ^_^
I agree with you about Cougar Town though

^ even though, don't Brad and Angelina always show up in the end? (even when they are not nominated for anything...)

I think this is the year of Social Network, it's probably going all the big Oscars, the Academy loves movies that are kind of cultural marks

no they only come when they are nominated. johnny depp too. that's why they have nominations for the tourist they want johnny depp, angelina jolie and brad for the ratings.

when are the baftas? i dont care who win i think its marketing and political but i watch for the dresses :p

For both the Globes and the Oscars, I feel that Leo and Carter are the most likely to attain the supporting actress award given their somewhat consistent nominations overall; I am personally hoping for Carter to receive them.

 finally a different film than TSN!

i agree with the San Fran Critics Circle Award though I have to admit that I am a sucker for Williams that's why i want her to be nominated - she has great acting chops and is giving her all in every movie and risking quite a bit by never chosing a part over box-office possibilities...

They are on 13th Feb 2011. And I believe you are right when you talk about the importance of marketing, especially screener DVDs or free local screenings. A lot of people in the industry are too busy working to go to the cinema a lot so they depend very much on what gets sent to them.

Haven't been able to get into Modern Family AT ALL. But I don't mind it getting nominated, I know people say it's good. It's the other stuff.

 I'm still in awe with Red getting best picture nom. Ran out of comedy/musical film eh GG?
The shocking thing is that there were so many wonderful candidates! I can kind of understand why Burlesque was nominated. They love their musicals no matter how mixed the reviews are (think Nine, Across the Universe, Mamma Mia! and The Producers). Mary Louise Parker was the only interesting thing about Red. The Tourist? lol. That's not even a frickin' comedy.

A bunch of films that were better:
Easy A
The Other Guys
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World
Greenberg
Made in Dagenham
Get Him to the Greek
Due Date

I think even Date Night would've been a better choice and that was a mildly forgettable film. Knight and Day was fun. Once again, even that would've been a healthy alternative. Alas, the HFPA is not famed for its credibility.

These are comedies...and very good ones at that. A few years ago, they actually made some wise decisions in this category. In Bruges and Happy-Go-Lucky and Burn After Reading.

Was The Social Network really that good of a film?
It truly was, at first i refused to see it, since i despise Facebook and Justin Timberlake thinking he is a thespian. It just didnt sound like something i could possibly support, but then i caved in, because of Sorkin & Fincher, boy was i wrong. Its epic, so well written, acted (even by JT, eek), and directed, and i dont think its a Facebook movie at all.

Aw I think it's charming and really close to earth (for the lack of words)

Exactly! Of all the zillion movie on 2010 they chose RED ? It's just another starstruck action bang bang boom boom movie. And even Dame Mirren can't help this film (although Karl :blush:B)). I doubt GG wanted to raise the viewers with this choice too. So what's the point?

I'd prefer 'I Love You Phillip Morris' instead.

Oh my world, that is my dilemma. TO A TEE! But tonight I think I'll be giving TSN a chance.

And I'm surprised people are most upset with RED being in the Comedy lineup. I haven't seen it, but it's the best reviewed film of the whole group, after The Kids are Alright. The Tourist, Burlesque and Alice in Wonderland are the true tragic nominations there.

i watched the social network a couple of weeks ago and i have to admit that i really enjoyed! i might not get the hype about the movie but the movie itself is really great - i like the screen adaptation as i read the book before the movie came out - i like the directing and i was impressed by all the actors though i can't convince myself to include Justin Timberlake in the group of actors yet! ;)

go and watch it!
