Thanks for the response.
(Have you already given that invite out? :ninja: :P )

I'm surprised that people get on there and do that since that is probably a quick way to get booted out. Personally, I'm interested in meeting more international people but obviously living in the US, it's not going to be easy for me to get connected to these people.

I wanna get in so badly, it borders on obscene

(i figured out that my cousin is a member there..... hehe)

i'm curious about it too

i'd like to check out the small world myself.
this place (TFS) is invite-only now as well, isn't it? it's very strange that.. i believe in free information on the internet, and yet i'm on these private forums
and professionally work in IT and have to worry about controlled access & data security

It must be so great to be a member there... ahhh ^_^ I'd love to be a member one day, I'm sure I'll get there eventually  I can only imagine how valuable it would be to be part of such a network, if you're in a business, or whatever... wow! I think it's a genius idea!

I don't know anybody rich or important so I doubt I'd know anybody from there...

everyone and anyone is on it.
guys, you are not missing out!
it has changed since 2004 :(

Yeah, I suppose, but it's still a darn good tool to have if you want to network with powerful people, no? That's what I find so fascinating about it.... not so much the "celebs", but more like, the important people who are on it... like CEOs and people like that.

I got on smallworld about a year ago only to realize tha all the young & cool ones are now on facebook! Hahaha!

I've been on there for a little more than two years now and I am meeting more and more people from all walks of life through it. Certainly this summer would have been a lot more boring for me without the people I've met through ASW that were vacationing here.
I have also found some old friends from more than 10 years ago through ASW again!

I think it's popularity among the 'young' and 'hip' is on the wane. I remember my old boss had an account there though I don't know that he used it that often.

^ I haven't heard it even mentioned in forever (until this moment), which makes me think that a Small World has shrunk

i was introduced to a site for `UHNW` people called acoolworld.com ...even though it seems pretty thrown-together...the sign up page requires the first four digits of a person's centurion amex!

Someone I know was talking about this site the other day and now I'm ultra-curious about what's on it. I want an invite lol.

^ I suppose it's a pretty elite group who wants to be invited these days, so maybe it won't be a problem

I just got on it....I remember hearing about it years ago. suddenly a couple weeks ago a friends sent me an invite...I only joined this week. Still exploring it...the forums are funny. I also got invited to decayenne...which I had never heard of...I have invites for that

i've been a member for a while. My sister invited me and there was a lot more people i know there than i expected.
i didn't realise there was a thread here about it until i found a forum on aSW of people asking for invites for tFS!
it's really not to die for, i could totally live without...
but i must admit it was kind of helpful to find an apartment in Paris for the summer.
I got a great deal (CHEAP!), center of paris, the owner replied only a few hours after i contacted him, and as it's been said 100% trust (no "nicknames" allowed and no fancy avatars, real profile pics only  )
About getting PMs from people you don't know, I think they are getting very strict with it, and they basically suspend your account if you try to contact someone you don't know.

I think the photo an no-nick policy makes a huge difference to the quality of the community, along with the fact that it's by invitation only and you may or may not get invitation privileges as a member (it's not automatic and can be limited to a quota).

As for PMs you need a legitimate reason for contacting someone you don't know; it's not forbidden in an absolute sense. If you invite people you don't know into your network "on spec" and they decline you, that can count against you pretty quickly.

But I think it would never have become so exclusive if the founders hadn't been able to bring in their own good connections. There are a lot of imitations now, or sites that appear to be imitations of ASW, and they don't automatically take off just because they have a strict policy of exclusivity.

^^ I've been invited to a couple more sites like that through aSW... but nothing really worth it.
lstyle.com is kind of good, bug their policy as they only just started is s big too open for my taste. I got like 5 or 10 invitations soon after I joined, at aSW however, (after years of membership) I still don't have any invitation privilege. I'm totally ok with it though. I think it's the best for the site.
I've always thought they must give the right to invite people shen they feel you are connected enough to ensure that whoever you invite will know already some other members, no?
I've tried looking up different names and I am never more than 4 degrees of separation from anyone I've tried! they must have done something right, no?
