Advice about Starting & Promoting a Fashion Blog - See Post #1 for Thread Rules

Dru, I don't use captchas or comment moderation. At this point it seems unnecessary, but perhaps in the foreseeable future.... Why do you ask?

Also, punky suggested this awhile back:
Maybe we could post our blogs and have each other give advice on what could be better?
My boyfriend and all his designer friends do that with projects they work on.
It could help.
I thought it was a pretty good idea. Is anyone game?

it is a good idea... who's brave enough to be the first one? :)

PS: I managed to install the addthis!!!

I'm up for that too!

Although...my blog has evolved to become only 1/2 fashion blog ;).

So I'll start...
remember that these are just my opinions, and they can be wrong! :)

The Couturist Records: I love the design!. I would use a bigger font, though. But maybe I need glasses! :D

Miss Couturable: I love your writing, the design is totally chic and sweet!, you are a mix between Blair Waldorf and Minnie Mouse. Also, the internship at Seventeen seems very interesting and I'd love to hear more about it, like how you managed to get accepted, what do you have to do, the insides of a teen fashion magazine...

I'll call this game "I'll define yours and you'll define mine"

Miss at la Playa: Your blog is great! I really like how diverse the content is and how you try to involve your visitors into your blog by including polls and so on. The design is quite nice and appealing, too.

Miss Couturable: Your content is really interesting and well-written. I like how you include your personal experiences and write about your life so frequently. Plus, it's quite admirable how much effort you put into your plans.

The Couturist Records: Your blog does an amazing job with photos -- while it's image oriented, I think you add good commentary to balance it out. I've seen too many blogs with only photos and a short sentence such as "I like this". Usually I always ask, "Why?" In your blog's case, I never have to -- the answers are there. I like that you write in German too -- I wish I could write in another language! It really does capture another niche ;).

Miss at la Playa: You inspire me to keep practicing my Spanish ;)! I love how your blog design is so playful and lighthearted -- just like an afternoon at the beach! You definitely post some very interesting photos and there's something about your blog that screams spontaneity -- but very classy at the same time.

j'adore couture: You're from San Francisco! How wonderful -- I'm from the bay area! The fact that you're an art director is really evident in the way you write your blog -- you definitely know what you're talking about. I like that you're very straight forward, no flowery language needed. Personally I'm a huge fan of unique blog designs though, so I'd think it'd be nice if you got a top banner or something. However, simplicity works well for you.

Does anyone know how to join Coutorture? I talked to a fellow blogger who works with Coutorture on a regular basis and she told me to email the assistants/editors and so I did (twice) over the past 4 months and have not received a response yet... Perhaps my blog is not up to quality? My acquaintance said that my blog was just fine though.
I looked through some of the blogs and I saw some that were somewhat poorly written by 15 year olds (bad spelling, etc) and I was wondering what the criteria was for joining...it seems to be a mix.

diorable: Don't worry, it's not the quality of your blog (which is excellent, by the way). After refining the quality and voice of my own blog over the past several months, I finally decided to join Coutorture, too. I have high standards, and I didn't want to apply for membership with an unestablished blog. Unfortunately, I got the email runaround for a month from Julie and her assistant, either getting passed along or never getting a reply.

Eventually, I got Julie to tell me what's going on. The official word from Sugar Inc., Coutorture's parent company, is that Coutorture is in a "holding pattern." Therfore, Julie doesn't actually know whether or not they are accepting members at this time. Although she won't say outright that they are not accepting members, essentially, effectively, that's what happening. There's a little more to the story, but I think you'll need to get ahold of Julie to have her tell you herself.

I completely understand that Coutorture is going through changes, and that in a transition period, membership might not be open. However, I find it disrespectful that she and her assistant kept me waiting for over a month, during which I sent seven emails between the two of them. Likewise, I also find it upsetting that no one has gotten back to you at all. Incredibly enough, it took me a month to find out if Coutorture was even accepting members! Technically, I still don't even have the answer to that query, but I can infer from the reply Julie finally sent me.

I hope this answers your questions. Oh, and up til now, there has been no criteria for joining (as evidenced by the poorly written ones you saw); I know some of my friends joined Coutorture when they first started their blogs. Coutorture is significantly changing, though, so membership may (?) open back up soon, but perhaps in a completely different structure.

dreamecho: Ah, okay -- thank you so much! My acquaintance did tell me that they were in a transitional phase but I was hoping someone would at least reply to my email(s). I'm hoping they will open membership up soon with an application or something... I spent the longest time wondering if my blog was an "automatic rejection" or something :(.

thanks for the review diorable...:flower:
i'm working on a new design for my blog that would include a header image, but it might not hurt to put one in for now...
the problem with being an art director is i seem to change my mind so much...

dreamecho: thanks for informing me! I've sent an email too and I've received no reply. :judge:

fanatiquefashion: the design is just perfect, futuristic yet vintage, because of the background. The articles are great, i loved the one about "fashion word should be banned from the dictionary", I think the same!
The "past" "present" "future" menu is a great idea, i love it. I'm adding it to my links! :)

verymoni: thanks for the feedback :flower: we want to improve by adding a commenting function, but we don't quite have the skills yet!
