Advice about Starting & Promoting a Fashion Blog - See Post #1 for Thread Rules

go on to layout, on the side it will say 'add item' click that, scroll down the list of things you can add e.g photos, text etc it will say 'list of links you like' click that and start adding :)

msg me if you need more help.

if its a question on comments, i think if you are commenting on other blogs too, and linking to others people will be interested to hear more from you.
I started mine on the last day of november, so its 4 months now and i have 89 followers!

Wow, that's an amazing achievement in such a short time, I thought your blog had been around for ages!

I love the stories on Miss At La Playa, Verymoni. Such a good idea. I also was wondering how you can promote you blog because I have sent comments to other blogs and sent my blog to the sites, i.e. digg.com and technoratti.com but there hasn't really been any rise in readership. What else can I do? I have 3 followers and I have been blogging for only about 2 weeks, is that good? Anyways please check out my blog, it's in my signature. Thanks!

Oh many people have blogs where they post the collections or editorials. You can find these easily on bigger websites like style.com or tFS. So it is important to have original content, something that makes someone want to come back to your blog.

I was thinking that my niche was collections and magazines but if there are too many of those blogs what can I do to set myself apart? I really want to stay with 'collections and magazine' though.

you know what, i just hate it when people just post images and dont write anything. i just close the web page. what's interesting about that, why would people comment on it? bit of interesting writing would be good

JenniferJarvis: I think they just do that for "inspiration." Like I know Sea of Shoes has another blog (http://seaofshoes.typepad.com/lovers_in_highschool/) where she just posts random (although usually related) pictures without much of an explanation.
Really, I think a good set of pictures don't need an explanation when used for inspiration. It conveys a message through images - or in other words - speaks for itself.

I can see both sides ... but a blog (remember it's short for web log) is inteneded to be about words and writing your thoughts, IMO. If it's just about pics ... why not just do an album somewhere like photobucket or myspace?

That's true.. on photobucket you can upload pictures and caption them (haha). I don't like 'reading' blogs full of pictures and hardly any text - especially runway/editorial/etc photos, as someone said before you can find them on Style.com. Although sometimes I find it could be a nice summary of compilation of pictures.

That's a valid point, but I suppose blogs are seen more as "public" or intended for to share information whilst Photobucket and other image servers are viewed more as private or individual...

I see your point, but I guess iIjust think it's too easy to post beautiful photos. Theres not much effort involved, I like to take time with my blog and research what I'm posting about so I can learn from it aswell as write an informative post.

I think the concept of blogs are evolving, some use them for personal journals, some for fashion analysis, some for style sightings... There are more and more "photocollection"-blogs popping up, and I think it's a good medium, even if it breaks with what the blog-format originally is. It's esentially a space where someone can curate their own exhibition of pictures they like and find inspirational - and I've found lots of amazing pictures following blogs of people I share aesthetical visions with (phew! long sentence).

^I agree, there are many really inspirational photo blogs. I love them because sometimes I'm lazy and I don't want to read!

the same way a lot of threads here function :p
endless source of constant production of new thoughts and ideas through pictures..

& many times also just a little bit of text gives it a push

I have a blog that I started pretty recently.. would love critique!

Wow, it's really good! I tend to check out lots and lots of fashion blogs, and I rarely go past the first page, but I kept reading :P Good mix of catwalk, magazines and original content, keep it up!

Yep, and besides, the computer screen isn't the best way to read massive blocks of text anyway (especially with the layouts many fashion blogs use), so yeah, pictures are nice :P We fashion-folk never been famous for our concentration anyhoo

Hi! I just started my blog and would like some critique and suggestions on what to post... as fashion is really a very broad topic. :innocent: As of now, almost everything in the site is about my personal style and blah.

Please note: most of my posts are photos as I'm too lazy to write. Hahaha! I'm more a visual person.

Thankyou! :ninja:
