Alexander McQueen: After Lee

I sincerely hope they leave this brand alone, this could ruin his archive of work if someone else took over

ppr would be idiotic to let this label die. that would do more to ruin his legacy than having someone else continuing it. if they're smart, they'd start out doing "tribute" collections that reproduced the best works of his past collections with a contemporary spin. they could follow the helmut lang (post helmut lang) business model where they appeal to a different part of the market that may have become aware of him after his death.

...and after Tom Ford left at Gucci, I haven't ever once seen a collecttion that is completely shine out the soul and the individuality spirit of the house in the same way these legendary fellows have done, not one collection, ever. I would hate to see this happen to Mcqueen, too.

But had Gucci not continued after Guccio Gucci died there would have been no Tom Ford at Gucci!

OK, it continued under the direction of the Gucci family, but you get my point?

Personally, I think Lee's assistant should be given a chance.

I don't think Lee was an arrogant, or possessive man and from what he said, I think he would have wanted the brand to continue, if possible.

...and what Lee would have wanted is the most important thing.

Well Lee himself stated in an interview (I can't remember which one...) that he hoped his name and house would live on long past his death, so clearly he always had intentions that it would continue.

Exactly.

I think fashion has gotten out of hand with all of these collections they're having causing the designers to overwork and it feels that, for some, their creativity is running dry .

Yes - couldn't agree more!

Far better to have fewer well-considered and inspired collections, than more rushed and uninspired ones.

the quotes from LOVE magazine:

"I'm 40 now, but I want this to be a company that lives way beyond me, and I believe that customers are more important to making that happen than press," he said. "When I'm dead, hopefully this house will still be going. On a spaceship. Hopping up and down above earth."

Commerce is effecting fashion not because of its tireless hankering for wearable clothes but because it asks to much of creative minds.

Yes, people who aren't creative often simply don't understand how exhausting it can be.

Inspiration comes (assuming it does!) and then the artist, generally, has to work like a demon to get that thought out of their head and into the world, to their exacting standards.

By 'artist', BTW, I mean someone who actually creates things most others couldn't (not someone like Tracy Emin who calls herself an artist, but wouldn't have the first clue how to create anything artistic) and I include the more inspired fashion designers in that definition.

Creating art is tiring enough - but to have to produce a whole fashion show, multiple times a year, must be a complete nightmare.

Then, just when they've finally finished and desperately need a long rest, to recharge, they then have to, somehow, find the energy to start, all over again, for the next one.

People who just roll out of bed and into a suit (someone else has ironed for them) and drive (or get driven) into work, crunch a few numbers, speak a bit of jargon, have a meeting in a board room and then home, again, simply don't seem to understand.

I'm sure an afternoon on the golf course is more than enough relaxation for them, because their work is, generally, not particularly mentally taxing and most of it can be easily accomplished within a 9 to 5 schedule (and very often, far less).

Thesun.co.uk reports that the police are said to have discovered "multiple notes" with McQueen's body. He was found hanged at his home in Mayfair, central London here Thursday. "He left letters to friends trying to explain his actions," said a source.

McQueen, 40, was mourning his mother Joyce who died 10 days ago. His family Saturday went ahead with his funeral in Forest Gate, East London deciding against a joint funeral. "We are grieving. Everyone is too upset to say anything. It's so raw," said McQueen's brother Michael, 49.

McQueen's latest couture collection will be shown at Paris Fashion Week in March.

Maybe if Sarah Burton did all of the r-t-w pieces in the past decade for real. I thinks she's definitely deserve a chance. Beside if she and Lee were such a great friend for over 10 years and still remain a good friendship as a co-worker to each orther.

Then I think Lee would be happy to see his good friend get this opportunity to continue the house direction.
But then again, no one is really know for sure what went down behind the close curtain.

I am glad too they will show it . It's definitely going to be highly emotional .

Im guessing the show will be a spectacle. It would be so great if they showed some outfits from his previous collections.
