American Apparel (April 2006 - March 2010)

and the fact that they've been expanding at such a rapid rate. to be honest, 16m doesn't sound like that much debt but i think everyone is just clamping down...

AA is finally feeling the OVERPRICED crunch. Their clothes are overpriced and consumers are not willing to pay.

^ I don't think it's that overpriced... considering their quality (and then where they manufacture their clothing inside of the U.S., workers benefits, etc.), I think it's a fair deal. Say in comparison to Alternative Apparel... American Apparel's quality is astronomically better.
I don't even want to think about my Alternative Apparel shirts that I bought... :ninja: *shudder*

I think it's overpriced. And tbh not everything is *that* good quality. Loads of the stuff in store has holes in it! If you live in the US it's not as overpriced as here though

yeah some of the things are overpriced like that coat that was £157 and that afrika dress with the pockets...i don't think their basic tanks are that bad though

hm, some of my AA t-shirts gets baggy after a while. and their sizes always confuses me. I have clothes from AA in sizes M, S and XS.

part of the issue is that they've raised prices over time...some tshirts on the website (the tie-dye one in particular I remember) started off being cheap and then randomly AA would raise the price. For items like the tri-blend shirts I'm willing to shell out because they're durable, but I'm not going to buy an ill-fitting spandex microdress for 50 bucks.

is it better to purchase stuff from AA online (with all the promotional codes, etc) or to shop directly in their stores?

i would always shop directly in stores. just because of the sizes and stuff.
and because i hate waiting for getting something that i immediately want to have ;)

^ someone ordered from there and heres what she said

I got my order from trendyblanks.com today and it was actually from the AA factory and came with a catalogue and the traditional "cities" packaging logo. I'm not sure why AA has another website for selling things but the prices are awesome (6.00-8.00 for the tshirts) and they have a fair range of colors, and it came in about 5 days. I got the Triblend tee in indigo (should've ordered a size down, this is very stretchy compared to their other tees), a crew-neck and a V-neck.

Yeah it is legit but I think they only do wholesale. Idk but everyone always does group orders through trendyblanks..

AA has had problems with accounting procedures/financial reporting in the past, and had a CFO step down last April (after Dov publicly called him a "complete loser.")

The prices are reasonable within the US, I think. But they don't make a large profit with the overhead of US manufacturing including their touted benefits for employees.

The rapid expansion and lawsuits aren't helping the financial picture, to be sure.

about this whole price-discussion:
i think the prices for the basic-shirts are quite ok. but, at least here in europe, in the last couple of months all the new items that came out were overpriced!!
i mean 28€ for a simple beanie-hat?? or the lowcutback-longsleeved dress... and the quality of these items simply doesn't justify the price!
