Honestly, this is by far my favorite job out of all the places I've worked.
The discount is 50%, but we also get an allowance twice a year (the amount depends on your position, but it is generous at all levels) to buy a certain amount of clothes. On top of the discount and allowances, we also get "giveaways" almost weekly, where they give us certain items for free to encourage us to wear them to work and boost their sales. Oh, and free sample items for us to evaluate them and give feedback before our store carries them to sell. I got the disco pants for free that way.. it's not just small items. We also get health, dental, and vision insurance, and the pay is amazing compared to what other retail jobs pay.

Dov and people from corporate stop by to check on us from time to time, but for the most part they give us freedom to merch and arrange things how we feel is best suited to the shoppers in our area. They trust us to be to what needs to be done, and people who do a good job don't go unnoticed. A past keyholder of mine now works for corporate, and another past employee has travelled around the world helping to merch stores - another is a store manager in Isreal now!

We get to listen to viva-radio.com at work, which is huge. So basically, we get to listen to whatever we want. None of that one-hour monthly CD on repeat business. We are also encouraged to send in our own mix CDs, which get put into viva for us to enjoy at work!

Lastly, and I can only speak for my own store on this, but I am an assistant manager and while I have to play the leadership/supervisor role at work, I am genuinely friends with everyone I work with. We all get along and hang out outside of work on a regular basis.

If you have a chance to work for AA, you should jump at it. They take care of their employees, it is a great work environment, and you get to wear awesome clothes everyday. I love it.

Ah this sounds amazing, free clothes! And it seems truly interactive, and they use your feedback to make the store better. Fat chance of that happening where I work, the most i get are the fabric carrier bags or a few hangers.

has anyone tried the new nylon jacket? will it really protect you from the rain, or is the material super wimpy (like so much other am ap garb)?

wow, hollycaroline. that sounds like a really fun job. I've send in my resume to AA in Sweden, Stockholm. let's hope I'll get the job..

however! I was thinking about ordering this one: http://store.americanapparel.eu/rnt39.html#i. I am 116lbs and usually a size S but I don't want the suit to be too tight or all saggy and loose. which size?

^ Looks nice, but wouldn't have a hope in hell of wearing something like this. I'd recommend reading the comments people have written about the product. I wish American Apparel would produce some supportive swimwear, It'd take over my life even more...

What's your height?

Funny enough my boyfriend and I were discussing that bathing suit the other day. I think that would look terrible on me. We decided that the thought of it is nice, but in practice, it's the bathing suit that covers positives and highlignts all negatives (on most people). Although maybe you have a superhot body above us mere mortals and the confidence I lack.

I would say that that's a suit that has to fit perfectly to work. Too tight and it creates love handles. Too loose and you're a goner. I would highly suggest you don't order it online, but I guess that depends on the return policy.

I think the benefits (ie health and dental) definitely depend on the country you work in. When I was at my nearest AA (which is laid out in the most horrible fashion. they carry a LOT of stock, but it's all rammed together and not clear what goes where and why), I was looking at the socks and they had numbers on them like they were sized. I asked the girl if they were one size, and she said 'yeah, I think so' and I was like 'oh that's weird they have numbers on them then' and then made some throwaway comment about Dov Charney. She looked at me like she had no idea who I was talking about, and then didn't say ANYTHING. awkward.

It sounds like a really great place to work, certainly from a financial perspective.
I do think it's pretty pricey for what it is though - £17 for a plain v neck tee? There are plenty of other brands who sell three packs for less than that and still produce them ethically.

it seems I am spending all my money here lately:
Just got these lovely items.

I've bought soooo many things at AA and my faves are still anything triblend.. vneck, romper, raglan, cardi...

I cant get enough triblend they just need to make a triblend circle scarf and my life will be complete.

I work across the road from a shop and can't bring myself to go in even though there are loads of items I'd like to buy.
