Anthropologie

I'm like Hedben, I get at least one or two catalogues every 2 weeks. But I do order online quite a bit so I think that probably keeps them coming.

^^ pazza... Those were the exact two pieces that I was eyeing. Did you ever try them on? How'd you like them?

I have a box coming to me with a few items. The one I'm most excited about is the Twinkle bedding.

(sorry the pic is so small, but I don't know how to get a picture off the flash they use on the website)

^ That is small, but after a quick search I did get a closer look at the lovely print. :woot: . . . what else did you get?!

I only tried the jacket on, which I absolutely adore for the cut, the detailing around the pockets, and the hoodie that sits perfectly back and just as well, fits just right on the head, framing the face nicely. I would have purchased it then and there had I not tried on another jacket elsewhere. Now I'm trying to decide which one will best suit me . . . and I guess, another reason for my indecision is the up-keeping of the brass closures. For some, it's no big deal as there's always cleaners for that, but I'm constantly on the go, and I need something that'll be able to withstand my minimal-fuss lifestyle. If you have more patience with cleaning brass, I highly suggest you give it a try and/or buy, as it's an absolutely beautiful jacket. It can easily go from day to night, city to country, casual to frill . . . . . . actually, I think I just convinced myself in getting it. Screw my oxidation forecast.

As for the sweater, doesn't it look so inviting? Every time I look at the picture it keeps calling to me, saying, "let me embrace you, and envelop you in warmth" . . . it's a rarity for a sweater to speak to me in such a way, not even cashmeres. Argh, hopefully when I go down to LA in a couple of weeks, one of the branches will have it in stock, and I can give a review then. :shifty: That is, unless you get it first, then you can tell us all about it. Hope you receive your package soon! :flower:

^ Thanks for the report! I like that sweater a lot, too. Not sure about the longer bits on the side. But the knit seems thick and comfortable.

I also ordered the menswear sneakers and cropped tweed pants and a little blank book. I saw the pants in the store the other day and I wasn't so impressed, so they're probably going right back. I'm also not that hopeful about the sneakers, but I thought I would give them a shot. I'm desperate for some comfortable, sturdy shoes for the winter.

i always go into the store and like so much of what they've got in there but i just can't justify spending so much money on items that for the most part are considered trendy or overly quirky..

i like mixing quirky pieces into my outfits to individualize the look..
but i don't know..

i just wish the stuff wasn't so expensive..
at least i would consider it expensive..
at my age (23), and with my current job (bleh )..
i just can't afford to be spending hundreds of dollars on these things..

i'm trying to scale back on buying large amounts of less expensive things..
and being more selective so i can spend more money on special pieces..

does anyone else feel that the stuff there is a bit overpriced some (or a lot) of the time?

^
yes I definately do. I'm not saying they don't have a lot of cute dresses and things but often I say to myself that I wouldn't be spending that much on things. Their shoes are another example of things which are heavily overpriced. I think it's difficult because the stores (and the website as well) are SO well styled that it really sells a fantasy in your mind of winter or summer or spring or whatever and one wants to buy into that with the pretty dresses and sweaters but it's not really justifiable for what they are offering. In my opinion anyway.

^^yes Meg, exactly! ^_^
it's like you're in my head

I was looking through their catalog earlier and I liked so much of what they were offering..

the styling is really so good that it definitely makes you fantasize about wearing the stuff...
even if it's something you wouldn't normally wear!

i would definitely agree that the shoes are very overpriced--they often have a vintage sort of look to them and are ridiculously expensive..
though i may like some of them, i'm not about to drop my hard earned money on shoes that look like they could have come from my mother's closet in a previous life :innocent:

^ agreed. They mix boutique labels with their own outsourced designs in order to be able to raise the prices overall, I think. Their own labels I find to be rather overpriced for the quality sometimes. But you can often find awesome deals on designers like Anna Sui, etc. when they go on sale.

As for the shoes, here in Seattle, they send all returned shoes (and sometimes handbags) to the downtown store and immediately mark them down to half price. Today I visited the downtown store and they were having a sale on all shoes, with an additional 50% off. So I got a pair of boots and flats that ended up being 75% off. And that was a pretty good deal, I think. ^_^ Otherwise, I'm not sure about buying any shoes full price. Although they are a great source for shoes from more indie brands like Repetto, Georgina Goodman, and Maloles.

Oh! And you're exactly right about that fantasy in the store. I found this on the company website a few years ago.

Our established ability to understand our customers and connect with them on an emotional level is the reason for our success.

The reason for this success is that our brands - Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie and Free People - are both compelling and distinct. Each brand chooses a particular customer segment, and once chosen, sets out to create sustainable points of distinction with that segment. In the retail brands we design innovative stores that resonate with the target audience; offer an eclectic mix of merchandise in which hard and soft goods are cross merchandised; and construct unique product displays that incorporate found objects into creative selling vignettes. The emphasis is on creativity. Our goal is to offer a product assortment and an environment so compelling and distinctive that the customer feels an empathetic connection to the brand and is persuaded to buy.

Anthropologie tailors its merchandise and inviting store environment to sophisticated and contemporary women aged 30 to 45. Anthropologie's target customers are, for the most part, focused on family, home and career.

I went into Anthropologie a couple of days ago to try the following jacket and sweater that I've been eyeing for a few weeks now:

And while walking in, a brushed past a girl wearing the ^ above Sweater Jacket (as posted by fashionista-ta), who was on her way out of the store. It looked absolutely stunning on, and while browsing through the store, I was kicking myself for not stopping her to ask where she bought it from. So, earlier while sitting in the bathroom :ninja: leafing through "Anthro's Knit Catalogue," it was on page 4! :woot: . . .

I'm glad you liked it. I thought it was incredibly Oliviers Theyskens, and I never see anything that reminds me of him at this price point ... the neckline is probably not ideal for me, and I live in a warm climate, so it's not very practical for me ... but I wanted one or more of you to have it :flower:

izzie, I like the leather robe detail..but I think the pattern might be a drawback.. limiting in terms of versatility.. 228$ does seem like a very steep price for the bag..

yeah, i thought the price was pretty high, too. i love it, but ahhh, $228 is A LOT for that bad.

I love Anthropologie!!! Probably my favorite store. I think some of their bags and jewelry are overpriced, but I love their apparel! And the selection of shoes they have is amazing. They recently started carrying a brand called Leifsdottir, which I am completely in love with and have only seen at Nordstroms and I think Bloomies, and they carry a lot of Corey Lynn Calter & some cute Anna Sui things. And their sales are amazing. The only downfall is Nordstrom puts Leifsdottir on sale way before Anthropologie. I also love their furniture but those prices are utterly insane. The stylists for the catalogue are VERY good at what they do.

Do they have good sales? Considering that their stuff is overpriced?

^^i've managed to get some good stuff on sale...

there is always a little space in the back with marked down items at the one i go to...

and they have more mark downs at the end of the season but i wouldn't say they have traditional sales where it's sort of everything must go...

Sometimes the sale section is amazing ($98 tops for less than $20) and sometimes its so/so, ($600 shoes/boots for $200, great deal but still not "cheap"). Most of the time the sale stuff goes fast, from my experience and it's hard to find the size/color you want in the sale stuff.

there are always sales. yes, you have to dig. they seem to keep multiples of the same size in the back, so if you need a particular size, it's worth it to ask since they don't always restock immediately.

it seems about once or twice a year, they have a 50% off all sale items, which is when things are really cheap. last winter they had this, but i have no idea if they had or will have it again this year.
