I personally do not care for the show. Everything seems so fake. However, it seems many of the winners have commenced successful careers, appearing on runways and in ad campaigns for some of the world's most acclaimed designers.

Love it or hate it????

I hate this show, its not a true portrayal of modelling. For one the contestants are 90% of the time not up to par with model standards. And as for successful careers, none of them have successfulc areers or walk in the worlds most acclaimed shows or ad campaigns either. The only remotely related model would be Elyse from season one having consistent work in Hong Kong, but that is in Hong Kong. She's not doing good editorial or runway in New York, Milan, or Paris.

^ I dislike the show for the same reason as YBF. However, I have seen bits of last season and did quite enjoy it because it was reality TV of course. What I really dislike is when people find out that I'm into fashion and models and they immediately link my interest to ANTM. I try to explain that ANTMs don't really go anywhere in the high fashion but they...look at me like 'WTF, they're still models'

Anyway, I don't like the show in general because it's quite unrealistic (But hey, what reality show it. The irony of it all) ....but at the same time it's a guilty pleasure.

It's great reality TV, with a pinch of reality and a good dose of ridiculous events that makes compelling viewing for anybody wanting to spend 45 minutes of their lives in front of the tube. I personally love seeing the shoots, the final photos, the b*tch fights, heck even my fashion dork boyfriend watches it and we fight over the outcome after every show.

I mean come on they put ice cubes in the pool water (cy7) to make the girls suffer and they made the girls shoot a swimwear ad campaign in -15 weather (cy1).

I hate the fact that Tyra Banks tries so hard to sell herself as being a "supermodel" who has had an acclaimed level of success in high fashion. And the word fierce annoys me now because of her :woot:
The show is pure for entertainment purposes and for me it has nothing to do with real modelling. I love Miss Jay though, he' s fabulous

Isn't it amazing. Miss Jay makes the show somewhat watchable, but you can barely stand to see him/her/it. LOL. It (Miss Jay) is out of control.

I agree. I think the show doesn't represent what the world of fashion is about and personally, I think Tyra should know better than this.

I understand what you mean when you state it is automatically assumed you like ANTM because you are in the world of fashion.

Haha yea. The show is disgusting IMHO. Tyra is Annoying AND...let me shut my mouth before something slips. Tyra was never a "supermodel" to me IMHO. Lord knows she tries...oh she tries.

It's entertainment for me. It's a reality show.. but there is nothing REAL about it when it comes to the fashion world.^_^

I haven't missed one episode of every season that's been aired here...I just love watching it for an entertaining purpose. But while watching I constantly realise that the show is pretty useless because not one career comes out of it. The contestants don't even look like real models 9 out of 10 times. With two exceptions maybe...Elyse and Mollie Sue.

What I find interesting though is that some of ANTM's European spin-ofs do produce succesful models... like Suvi (or am I wrong, Finnish next Top Model-ish show right?) and safe to say, Sanne Nijhof because of her Supermodel of the World victory (prob has a nice career ahead of her)

Saw the first few seasons, but it isn't fun when you know who won (internet...) and when you know no one is ever becoming a 'real' topmodel...

their challenges seem so unrealistic to actual modelling situations..plus all the sad generalisations on the fashion world are made

Actually, the rejects get better careers then the winners! Ginger, who didn't make it to the final 12 in cycle 7 now has an IMG contract!

i used to be huge fan of this show before i realize that this show is just entertainment not real fashion. Some facts of this show are not true like being top model need to have perfect walk i dont see it at all esp. when it comes to famous models these days like Sasha i think her unique walk even makes her look more interesting for so many people it doesn't make her less famous or destroy her career at all.

so now i dont see this show a lot.:innocent:

It's pure entertainment, but i enjoy watching it, well, not always but still, it's like a guilty pleasure.
In fact, I've always thought that the ANTM thread here better be moved to the "Entertainment Spot" section.-_-

i love the show for its entertainment factor..it helps me go through an hour workout! but some models they pic are just well...normal..and some photoshoots are just not needed..how many times do models pose with wild animals...i mean they do but not often...of hanging over 10 story building or whatever..the only models i saw true potential in are nicole and daniel..they can be editorial..but the rest..naima,eva..kairidee..come on..plus personality ISNT that important ..alot of top models nowadays barely even speak english~!
i still love to watch it..cant wait for season 7?

since I'm not an fashion industry insider I can't truly say how much of the show is true to life but I definitely see that a large portion of the show is scripted for entertainment purposes. I don't doubt that some agencies and casting directors are crass but I find the critiques by the judge panel on ANTM to be mean spirited and not constructively criticizing them. sometimes I find tyra's 'advice' to be unintelligible or at least the way she delivers them to the 'models' on her show. the concept of the show is to create a top model but it never does that and most of the girls that get jobs are using the show as leverage for work.another thing that bothers me about the show is how asinine it is for a completely inexperienced girl that's getting a 'crash course in modeling' expected to gain the skills of a high fashion runway model in matter of two months.
