Arctic Monkeys

Thanks for posting the NME article DiamondSea :flower:

FYI: NME has "50 Incredibly Geeky Facts about the Artcic Monkeys" on their homepage today.

Most of it I'd read at one point or another, but I definitely did not know that Alex had a John Cooper Clarke tattoo on his arm?! Do any pictures of this exist? (DiamondSea I'm looking at you for this info;))

I've never heard anything about a tattoo but maybe he has got one since the Humbug promotion.

New single. I hated it on first listen, but it's grown on me a bit, and now a few listens later I kind of like it. I don't like Turner's new attempt at humor though "kung fu fighting on your roller skates"... um, f no!, fail, bring me back the brilliant metaphors please.

Two singles and two fails.... I'm not sure I can even listen to that song again. That makes me extremely disappointed and hesitant about the album. Damn, I hope I'm wrong.

I LOVE THE NEW SONG! It reminds me of QOTSA and it's such a relieve after first hearing Brick by brick. That song is so boring.

I liked Brick by Brick more!

oh well, I guess I'll suck it up and see. ;)

Video for Don't Sit Down 'Cause I've Moved Your Chair. Some people said he looks like Julian in the first minutes of the video - which I find it true.

^I like the video!! at first listen I wasn't sure about the song, but I think it's growing on me ^_^ I'm really curious about the new album!

Some people said he looks like Julian in the first minutes of the video - which I find it true.

Girls want to be with him, and boys want to be him ;) Okay corny, but Turner does seem to have a bit of a man crush on Julian judging by his praise of The Strokes in interviews.

Also, this is sort of what I hate, the Monkeys have completely Americanized themselves. If this was another band I think I might like these new songs more, but I guess I'm nostalgic for the grittier Brit rock sound and venacular of the Arctic Monkey early days. Oh well...

Arctic Monkeys have chosen a rather minimal design for the cover for their new album 'Suck It And See'.

The artwork, pictured above, features nothing more than a white background with the album title written in black capital letters.

The album is the band's fourth full-length effort and will be released on June 6. It features the single 'Don't Sit Down 'Cause I've Moved Your Chair' plus 'Brick By Brick', which they have already released online.

'Suck It And See' was produced by James Ford, who worked on their last album, 2009's 'Humbug'.

Liked it.

People are outraged over it according to NME site, ha. I find it somehow fitting, bold name, modest cover.

Thanks DiamondSea for the track-by-track details. It's funny that Turner feels the album sounds more English, while I have found it quite the opposite so far. Hmm... I always love hearing the thought process behind each song, what a fascinating mind Alex has. I'm sure the album in its entirety won't disappoint.

The third song from Suck It And See, "Reckless Serenade", has dropped. Helder's was not lying about them going more "poppy" on this album, I'm personally missing the rocker vibe (hell even the stoner rock vibe of Humbug!) of their other albums. But, reading reactions online people seem to be happy about and receptive to this one, so listen for yourselves:

It's indeed more 'pop'... But I liked it as well, the bass intro is very nice. Still hope there are more rock songs as HeatherAnne said. Excited about the whole thing!

Ugh, if this is Alex's favorite song off the album, it doesn't bode well. I have been following the Monkeys since their first album and have loved their progression. Humbug took a week, but then I fell in love. This album seems like just a sell-out to the American public and it's actually quite sad. I can't think of a song previous to this album that I actually dislike, but so far I have two.
I'm rooting for these boys, I really am. I've seen them play (incredible) live shows at least 10 times all over the Eastern Coast and have had my tickets to their May show for months, but I hope they don't disappoint. I want them to do well so bad, but I also love them because they were doing something different before. American pop isn't innovative.

^ Agree with every word you said, glad I'm not alone in my disappointment of this new direction they're taking. It seems that Alex has a lot of ideas and sounds he wants to experiment with, but maybe he should consider making a solo album instead of attempting it with the Arctic Monkeys.

I really hope the rest of the album is good. What I've heard so far hasn't been impressive. I miss the upbeat, nonchalant, indie-rock music from the Monkeys. Favorite Worst Nightmare was amazing. Balaclava, Fluorescent Adolescent, 505 were some of their best. If they wanted to make a more pop album, I wish they went along the lines of Mardy Bum.
