Was "Why You All In My Grill?" playing in the background during this? If it wasn't. It should have been.

Ghetto is passe. Bling bling culture is over and it has become what it always was, the epitome of bad taste. There is nothing appealing about this entire collection. Its just trash. All around trash and I don't think it appeals to anyone. Kimora needs to go back to what she does best, nothing. Its aggravating that there are really talented people who don't get to show their stuff during fashion week and yet Kimora who is entirely without merit gets a big show and press attention.
like poor Zamb. well said.

^^My talks concerning the use of Kimora Lee's grills prop was real My response to a comment that Kimora is trying to market to "blacks" was real as well. Everything else outside of that was tongue-and-cheek. If this was serious (on a fashion forum?) to anyone then life is too easy for you. I say, go help a needy child.

Now, back to the fashion at hand-Baby Phat

It's kind of unfair that marketing blacks has to mean cheap looking clothes... there are alot of black designers, like Tracy Reese, who make great looking/quality clothes that dosen't have a hip-hop influence.

To stay on topic, I quite liked the bathing suits, but that was it.

this thread about Baby Phat its really funny ... are the clothes horrendous and tacky? Yes.. did you expect something else? No - i'm love to seeing people's reactions about it.

let's get over .. a little bit o sense of humor is good to keep the face lifted and avoid wrinkles .. sarcastically NYFW need things like that to give a twist in the american dream...

I love the whole social and anthropological discomfort it has caused. Shake it babe, you know that in pair of cool jeans and white t-shirt you will not take risks and lots of people will find you "cute".

This isn't about black vs. white fashion. It's not even about the validity of hip-hop influence (Michael from Project Runway is hip-hop influenced, and even despite the time constraints manages to produce lovely clothes). This is just BAD. It's UGLY. If you saw someone wearing the teeth-grills in real life you'd RUN AWAY. They make the poor models look like monsters in a tacky horror film. The collection is incohesive (except for it being uniformly AWFUL) and half of the stuff, like the white kaftan, looks like it came from PRIMARK or was won at the 0.99 starting price on eBay.

Half of me loves this -people can look back on this show as defining the noughties culture -blink-and-you-miss-it CELEBRITY over talent and hard graft. The whole thing is fantastic performance art, most notably Kimora, playing the ultimate I-am-a-good-designer-don't-you-know-how-famous-I-am? talentless celeb with such clueless, arrogant self-belief. As a joke on the state of the fashion industry, and a simultaneous reproach for letting it get this bad, it can't be beat.

But I do feel awful about the money, the models and the media attention that went into creating this farrago of ghastliness and feel sad that they were wasted on this circus sideshow when they could have done so much for a deserving designer with real talent.

Tfs isn't really a palce to trivialize the importance of fashion. I think everyone here trys to take fashion seriously. If not, why even be here?

And that's why I think most people get all worked up over baby phat, I wonder if it has a place in the serious world of fashion when it seems like kimora's just making a big mockery of it.

Socialist or Communist ideas is completely opposite to US rules, thanks god! otherwise you woulnd't be able to judge someone in public .

by the way I didn't liked the show as well, but that's life...

the only truth for me in this is a confession. i like to attend the baby phat show because it is like a guilty pleasure of just one big party. i prefer her away from the tents but i can't deny that i don't enjoy the 'show'. :ninja:

Huh? I'm not being Socialist or Communist (in fact, I'm a free-market Libetarian, so the complete opposite) -I'm just saying that this thing was a rubbish way to use money. I'm not saying she doesn't have the right to use her money to do this, just that it was a very, very bad decision to do so.

Btw, I think you'll find that there are no 'rules' against expressing Socialist or Communist ideas in the US. HUAC was abolished in 1975. There is a 'rule' guaranteeing freedom of expression. So I'll judge whomever I want.

First of all, of course there are many designers with plenty more talent that are more deserving of the money than Kimora like Uberwench said. With the money & publicity Kimora has, those designers can create beautiful collections & inspired pieces.

That opinion which I also hold has nothing to do whatsoever with Socialism or Communism, which is not about the complete oppression of the barely-clothed masses who live in drab & dure make-shift slums, as you seem to imagine. All I can say is the 60's are over :innocent:

^ Second that. (yet in my head I can hear the strains of Santino serenading Andre with, "Fashion, it's just fashion!") It ebbs and flows I guess. Either way, Baby Phat will remain an assiduously offensive assault on our collective senses.

^^^^lol ok JUST when I thought it was ok to sort of like this collection I see Lil Kim....how disturbing....she destroys every piece of clothing she touches...even Baby Phat.

^ Stop acting like kids and talk about COLLECTION beacuse it is the TOPIC of this thread.

I have never liked Baby Phat... I am not disappointed as it was quite predictable that the collection will be tacky ;).

there's no reason to debate over whether the collection is "too ghetto" or not, overall it is just a bad collection that doesn't need to be shown at fashion week just like miss sixty, rock and republic, and other brands that are similar.

Of course i would choose miss sixty in a heartbeat over baby phat..... but you get my drift......:innocent:

Hilarious! Kim made the girls wear grills! lol some looked like they had bad braces on others looked like it didn't fit well. and Emina looked rather 'annoyed' or mad or plain disgusted look on her face! lol and i loved Omi. she rocked on the catwalk.
