sorry I didn't get more information other than "special fabric made for Balenciaga" :( at least my SA didn't know more about it...it looks like wool/silk to me...

HOUSE RULES: How do you stick a round peg in a square hole? Fashion editors surely will try as they plan their fall-winter shoots and incorporate full-on Balenciaga retro regalia into their themes. Turns out the French fashion house is requesting that all designs "be shot as complete looks to portray what was represented on the runway," what designer Nicolas Ghesquière described as a "reference collection" based on the Cristobal Balenciaga archives. Goodness knows how riding hats and barrel-shaped plaid suits might fit into a Goth, grunge or Eighties shoot, but that's what creative license is for — and don't forget the handbag while you're at it. The house also is asking that no accessories be shot without a total look — unless it is a still life or close-up shot.

Those requests sound rather demanding. Do they work well with editors usually?

Hahaha! So ridiculous! It is amazing what Balenciaga's PR will try to get away with. That is so preposterous. And to the question below, no Balenciaga doesn't usually work well with editors. They are extremely selective and problematic, as evidenced by this news today. Unbelievable!

What the hell is wrong with Balenciaga? The collection wasn't all that to warrant such creative control. But I'm sure Anna et all with play along...

Wintour especially, i thought exactly the same...i'm just thinking if some magazines will be turned off by this:( and stop any business with Balenciaga in the future...i wonder if they're losing covers and editorials becauseof this as we speak...

In the above context, Caffeine used the abbreviation SA to stand for Sales Assistant or Sales Advisor. In France, a company name is often followed by SA and in Italy SPA - they used in the same way that Ltd is used in the States and the UK. Hope this helps!!!

Why do Balenciaga shoot themselves down in flames like this...its so unappealing, uncool and dare I say it unbusinesslike.

No, Balenciaga knows what it's doing. It's an extreme form of image control. People will bend over backwards to feature their clothes and they know that. As long as they keep producing the most exciting clothes around, they can demand whatever they want and the credits will still roll in by the boatload.

How does featuring a full balenciaga oufit in an editorial benefit them? I personally like to see the pieces in other outfits when deciding what I want to buy, which shows the pieces versitility.

It's just so Gilles Bensimmon of US Elle when an editorial is just page after page of total looks lifted straight from the catwalk - naff, unimaginative and uninspired. Personally, I prefer it when looks and labels are cleverly reinterpreted and put together in different ways its sad that Balenciaga are trying to engineer the press in this way - it's so retrograde!

yes, it's still idiotic:innocent:

Because they don't want a Balenciaga jacket paired with Baby Phat jeans or a Gucci skirt or Lanvin shoes. They want to control the editorial and the styling and they don't want their clothes to end up in any compromising positions.

Exactly, Ive seen in a few editorials where they copied what was already on the runway and I found it...rather, uninspired and completely pointless to feature the exact same thing twice. Balenciaga is lucky anyone wants to put them in a editorial, these clothes are beyond unwearable, maybe one of the first jackets paired with jeans, but the check prints are jarring and look dated outside of a fashion show context.

Im really shocked at Nicolas' crass, this is more of a Lagerfeld move, even Tom Ford, but I totally look at Nicolas in a different light.

Those buggers ... I agree with GG, I think it's all too common for the big fashion issues to feature a page of each designer. Boooooring ... I absolutely will not wear them that way ... I have what amounts to a personal rule that I will not wear more than two items by the same designer at once (only do that rarely), and preferably only one. Only a paid model or plaster mannequin should ever be caught wearing the same designer from head to toe.

It's not much of an "editorial" in this case is it ... Balenciaga don't even advertise ... oh wait, they do, it's just unpaid
