Balenciaga F/W 06.07 Paris

The only thing I really like about this collection are the pants, which I think were cut beautifully. All the the tops/ coats were all so tentlike- I hate that. and the shoes- omg they're just -blech!!!!

the only thing i like are the shoes, the trousers and the look on jessica stam. all of the tops and jackets with the 'bellpepper' peplum are totally unwearable. they'd look a lot nicer with a 'normal' relaxed flounce peplum, more like cristobal's original design.

^ I wonder if the stores will carry more wearable versions?? I like a nice little peplum, as it gives an in-out Girl shape. But just a big a-line top??!?! No one's going to want that....

I really want the jacket with the leather bow, but I called around London to N.Y no-one seems to be getting in size 34, and I really want this one to be fitted. :(

MC and Balenciaga?

Those shoes are totally mastubatory coming from Nicholas Ghesquire. They are like "yeah fuckers I got this company into the black and now I'm going to have self love....and women are going to wear it!"

first and foremost, i'm glad to see people still thinking about this collection...i'm rethinking what i said at first...i do not love it...

and i totally agree mutterlein, for someone whose chair was cracking for so long, to gain all this confidence back so fast is unattractive..i find it hard to call it confidence even, do i sense an ego?;)

Even though I think it's been a hit-and-miss season for Balenciaga, it's still remarkable how straight forward he went to execute his ideas. I actually really like how Guesquière deliveres his concepts so precisely every season, it's very focussed and abstract, which is as well evident in this collection... just in terms of a dry exercise/research in volume, he has done brilliantly (not so much on the top part, but some of the skirts were quite stunning). Let's see how he translates it in future seasons, I'm pretty confident it'll merge perfectly with his more farmiliar, close to the body pieces.

did you get a chance to look at a showroom collection? because i think most of these looks are quite unwearable, from what i've seen some of the marketable garments are very nice, some are so-so..i just got a look at the ss 06 jackets and pants and the quality wasn't all that...
the quality of this runway collection seems really fine, i can only hope the showroom one can be just as good..

Can't decide if she looks good or not....

I think she's wearing Louis Vuitton there - a dress from their 06 cruise collection? She wears a lot of LV badly - I can't imagine her ever considering Balenciaga!

I think Chloe looks great there - but I am not sure that I love the outfit for myself though.

I seriously don't see what all the fuss is about with Balenciaga putting complete control on their image. I'm actually glad they did.

The handbag-hype that Balenciaga received has greatly cheapened the brand, with all the (and sometimes unfortunate, with the way they wear it) celebrity-advertising. I constantly see knock-offs at my school. Teen girls see the bags in magazines and want it, then they idolize Balenciaga, and Baby Phat or Abercrombie at the same time (I've seen both extremes).

That being said, it's logical that they don't want the Prada, Burberry, Gucci, and Dior embarrassments (chavs, rappers, etc).

The handbag part of the image control was particularly good, that it could only be worn with Balenciaga. The bags are particularly prone to be worn with Hootie Couture, Juicy Couture, Abercrombie, Baby Phat, and a numerous range of high and low end labels. They could be worn with Baby Phat in a photo-shoot, for example, and the people who see it will relate Balenciaga to that style, not knowing anything about Balenciaga.

The other alternative, for it to be properly styled, would be for the magazines to get approval for the styling and photoshoots. That would be extremely costly, however - if Balenciaga doesn't accept it, they just wasted thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours. The only other logical choice would be what they did.

Basically, see how Gucci or Burberry and the like have ended up. If they had done with Balenciaga is doing now, they wouldn't have had so much of a bad image. (Both are significantly improved now, though)

I'm a bit disappointed, I really love the Balenciaga spring collection, but this seems to be a let down. I like the thick, platform shoes though...
