Balenciaga F/W 06.07 Paris

I was looking through people magazing today and there was a feature on the designer and Balenciaga in general..they were in his showroom and there was a picture of this dress:

The skirt is hand painted and inspired by an older Balenciaga design....it retails for..wait for it:

$101,370!!!!!????? :ninja:   :o

i just thought that was completly insane...

Some couture costs that much doesn't it?
Maybe it is possible?

it's not just a skirt..it's a whole dress...i had to read it 5 times just to make sure..it's in the latest people magazine..they call it the $101,370 dress in the story...the article is 2 pages long and they show the dress on the first page.

^better if they put it in a museum with that price...only an institution could afford it...

thats just crazy! its even one of my least favourites from the collection!

In my opinion balenciaga's pre-fall collection looks better then the catwalk collection, just got the catalogues.

I think I will waitlist for look nuber 18 and 23 (in black without embroidery) I love the bell sleeves, it seems new, but the other jacket is more chic, desicions..decisions.

I reeeeeeeally LOVE the first one.... and considering the investment that the purchase of any of the two will demand, I would definetely go for the first one since it seems like something that can be worn for years, without screaming the season that it was made...

...not that I don't find the second one extremely desirable, that is....

I know, it's very hard! And the first one is gorgous..

but I have so many tight fitted blazers/jackets.. I really love them both, if you are interested melt, when I find out prices for the first one I'll let you know.;):flower:

I love the second look as well, it really reminds me of old Balenciaga, that's why I like it, the other one is more modern-and sharp, I do like things and sharp but I tend to go for the same things over and over in my wardrobe, so the second feels new.

^_^

^ yeah, the first one is better value i think, i dont know you personally but i know its more of your style through tfs. i still like the other one too though, but i dont like the sleeves on it...:ermm:

Check out www.balenciaga.com there is now the full pre coll online, also the dress is really 101 000 K I read it last weekend in the FT. Its because the top is embroided by lessange with svarowski totally, and the skirt is as you said hand painted. there is also the video of this fw 06 collection now online with music by micael nymen that is quite cool, also on the site.

Thanks pucci mama(just saw your post)... I think I'm going for an Ann D. jacket this season though! ;)

I recently found this website and have spent a ton of time reading and looking around. I love his writing and keen fashion sense. He has some of the best fashion articles I ever read, and I love the fact he specializes in High-end fashion. His comments and superb analysis is fabulous.

Check out some of his articles:

Dior Homme
Adam Kimmel
Cristobal Balenciaga
Martin Margiela

He also has fabulous articles (fashion analysis) about unique designers such as Alexander Mcqueen, Tom Ford, Rogan Gregory, etc. and the good thing is he does not only analyze collections, but periods of the designers life, fashion movements, and a stunning selection of accessories (from Kris van Assches jewelry to Dior Homme trunks)

i absolutely love this collection. the details are exquisite. i agree about the 101k dress belonging to a museum. who can afford such a thing? if i was a gazillionaire i'd probably get it. maybe it's available for borrowing. anyway, this collection paid so much respect to the house without losing its modern edge. nicolas ghesquiere outdid himself. i love it!

^ thanks. it was on vogue with an article about dutch art's influence on fall fashion. the coat's by you (galliano)! :flower:

just checked balenciaga.com the fall 06 show video... just wanted to stress how INCREDIBLE this collection is!!!
this collection is pretty much PERFECT!!! in every way, it's modern it's edgy it's wearable (for rich ppl, of course, but still) it's classic it's timeless!

I do like Sasha's dress the best (the one that's $101,370), i love the combination of white and pink/red... her look is perfect, i think she worked that dress perfectly!
