Balenciaga S/S 2013 Paris

The S/S 13 season was kind of the beginning of the end for fashion.
Seriously. Nicolas' last season at Balenciaga, Raf's and Hedi's first at Dior and YSL. The absence of several 00s models who were very present last season.

I think a lot changed in that year. Balmain was no longer good because Decacnin had left, Cavalli was declining, Frida was sending out reductive collections at Gucci, and the list goes on...

As for models, the industry was in a weird phase where the '00s models were suddenly not being booked anymore, and there was a whole new batch of girls (Kati, Aymeline, Zuzanna, Marie Piovesan, etc...) but they didn't really get to stick around because it was right before the diversity + nepo thing that started happening.

I see this is what AW wanted to achieve with his show a year later but fail miserably.

I'm still obsessed with those ruffle skirts.
This collection is proof that you don't have to be boring to send out commercial clothes.
Despite being suffocated by Kering, Nicolas still delivered fashion-forward and great merchandise.
And the clothes aged so well, 10 years later and they still look good.

A great swan song for his tenure.

Reviving this thread to commemorate 10 years since Balenciaga's last good show.

Tbh, Demna's first two years were the best years of his tenure. Particularly his debut, it was strong, graphic, and created a strong foundation for him that he still stubbornly relied on today.
And his two couture shows were great, they added new dimensions to his works, and stop him from using the same tricks.

That opening look is still so killer. And this outfit is just perfection. This collection and Céline that season are both still

I actually feel like Daria Werbowy and Kate Moss were having career resurgences and booking A TON of campaigns during this time? And Mariacarla and Natasha and a few more girls from that era/group were still going strong too. I'd argue that the continued dominance of that group of models was also one of the reasons that new batch of girls never had the chance to truly shine.

I will say, it's crazy how Kati Nescher was everywhere. If I recall, during the Fall 2012 season she broke a record for opening the most shows? There was someone here on TFS that was keeping tally of that at the time lol.
