finally cut a proper fringe again!

it had grown out a bit to kind of a layered side part:

but now is straight across again:

ok so after watching 500 days of Summer twice, I went out spontaneously and got a fringe similar to Zooey's and I'm in love! My bangs are super thick and cover my huge forehead which is definitely a bonus :p I was sooo nervous while in the hairdresser's chair but I'm really glad I went through with it :D

^ I would love to sport blunt bangs again, but people are constantly telling me how it doesn't fit my face. Have you noticed how Zooey's bangs go way past where her hairline begins/forehead ends?

^^ this is actually quite common -- my hair is very thick and my bangs actually start at the crown of my head and i pull a significant amount of my hair forward over my face! they are razored quite short underneath and then the top 'layers' pull forward to eyebrow length. were i to part my hair they would sort of blend in as a 'top layer' but mostly it is only possible for them to come forward over as bangs. it all depends on how your hair moves and parts and also on the look you want :)

i find that on me at least, bangs that begin only just above the hairline have a very 90's soccer mom look and that the eyebrow-length thick fringe that's so popular now is usually a result of starting the fringe very far back on the skull.

Would you mind posting a photo, please? :flower: I'd like to see it in real life.

I watched (500) Days of Summer again, and it helps me get a better look at Zooey's hair. Other than how far back her bangs start, I've noticed how it's cut.

I love the short pieces on the sides like in the karaoke scene. I have them too, but mine are much thicker.

In the wedding scene, much of those pieces are pinned back and a few stragglies fall down.

I love it. ^_^ I think as long as I can get the bangs to go farther back, it won't make my face look as small. Many of my friends said blunt bangs didn't go well because my face is wide and short, and it only made it appear "frumpier."

there's a photo above but here are a few more of me with various fringe over the years (forgive all the changes, i modelled for toni and guy for a while and it would change drastically every 8 weeks hahaha)... all of it mostly starts at the crown though as you can see -- the opposite would be like the anna wintour bob (just google that for pictures) with the fringe starting very near the forehead. and i agree with you -- having the fringe start near the crown will probably not make your face look short/squat/whatever -- it's just a matter of getting the right cut to suit you :)

^^ also -- looking at zooey's fringen ow and it's similar to mine in that it also goes very wide across the forehead, nearly all the front of her hair is fringe, going all the way to the ears. this also will keep your face open -- same deal again with the opposite being the anna wintour bob where the fringe is only about as wide as the eyebrows and ends at the temples:

I think that's wise. ^_^ I think I'll make the bangs go back a lot farther so that it doesn't make my face all "frumpy."

:flower: You've been a real help, doll.

^ You look great! Irina had iconic bangs. Really thick and full. ^_^ Too bad she traded it in for that bob.

How do you guys maintain your fringe? Do you trim it by yourself? Or go to the hairdresser regularly?
I don't want to have to go to my hairdresser all the time cause it is burning holes in my wallet. I want to learn how to trim my own bangs. Any tips?

If you have a regular hairdresser he or she should trim up your bangs btw regular haircuts. I am never charged for it by my hairdresser but to still tip him.

I am guilty of snipping at my own bangs btw trims and always get yelled at by my hairdresser. "You've f'd up my beautiful lines!!"

^^ yeah, or they'll charge you like $10 which I mean, whatever. I go to a really expensive salon and if I go in between haircuts they charge me a very very small amount for a 10 minute touch-up which is like a little bit of a bang trim and maybe a little bit of razoring if it's getting too poofy on the sides etc. highly recc'd.

I do trim my own a lot though -- secret to this is to not cut straight across but rather cut vertically into the bang -- like just snip upwards at the longer pieces.

^ I never snip straight across and my hairdresser can still always tell.
I guess I'm a bad hairdresser.

Sometimes I use my too long bangs to hide my too bushy eyebrows.
Terrible, I know.:ninja:

I trim my fringe by myself. At the beginning I wasn't that good, but now I know what I want and I'm really good at it.Last two times I wasn't even happy with the way my hairdresser trimmed them,so I did it on my own as soon as I got back home:lol:

^never do by myself it would be disastrous hahahahaha honestly!!
