Best Sunscreen

I've heard that for the best protection, make sure the first two ingredients are Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide - they provide the best protection and don't degrade as quickly as the others. :flower:

Actually, yes and no. TD and ZO dont degrade as quickly as sunscreens that are unstable and since they are not chemical sunscreens, they are usually better for sensitive skins, hence why they are used a lot in baby sunscreens BUT. . .

and this is a big BUT, they dont protect against UVA rays as well as some some sunscreens like avobenzone. They usually protect againt UVB rays

Do you (or anyone) know of a sunscreen that has "the best of both worlds" so to speak? TD, ZO, and good UVA protection? I'm in desperate need!

what country do you live in? You get better choices if you live outside of the US in terms of sunscreen

I'm in the States
Am I out of luck?

I really like Omrelle by L'Oreal SPF 45. It contains titanium diozide.

Shiseido SPF 55. it has TD & ZO and its PPD factor (which measures UVA protection) is 8 which is okay for everyday use

I tried Ombrelle 45. The american version is not stable. The Canadian version has Meroyxl and is good (but very greasy shiny). I have dry skin and I dont care. In fact, my skin never looked clearer than with it but the I couldnt stand how greasy my skin looked

when your skin darkens (over time) due to the sun, does it ever go away? .... I'm not sure if I'm making sense...

do you mean overall or age spots?

for overall, you can get skin lighteners. they are usually popular in asia where porcelain white skin is prized.

for age spots, there are all sorts of treatments but it's just better and quicker to go to a derm

this is what i'm using, i spend far too much time outdoors not to cover myself in armor.

I changed my old sunscreen into this one,,after I read comments of many posters in TFS.

I am using it now,and I second, Anthelios from La Roche Posay 50+ is wonderful and not heavy to wear.:flower:

I should have been more specific, I meant overall. Is that the only solution, and is it safe?

i've started using the Kiehl's spray-on sunscreen, but i'm not sure how i feel about it yet. it's very light, which is good.

I use DDF, it protects against UVB and UBA, it has TD, it doesn't have ZO but it does have Octinoxate which sounds very similar...

I've had problems with sunscreens being too greasy, even oil free ones, but this one is compltly matte and light. I really like it :)

over time, if you use a very good sunscreen, your tan will pretty much be completely gone. if you want to get lighter sooner, then skin lighteners is the way to go and yes, they are safe. the concentration in over the counter lighteners are low.

Sorry to bother with another question :p, but how do skin lighteners work?

I am afraid that you are going to do some research on that since sunscreens are my thing, not skin lighteners.

All I can tell you is the following --

1. yes, they do work, i have a friend who used a shiseido one and the results were amazing.

2. most of them use an ingredient called " hydroquinone". you can research how it works.

3. I heard that you should only use lighteners for only a month or 2. It's not something you should use continuously. I dont know the reason for it since like I said, it aint my thing

The hydroquinone are banned now from use in lightening creams,at least in Europe and for sure in Japan, don't know if it's still allowed in the US,because they cause damages for skin.

The best I know available in the market are:

Re-Nitriv from Estée Lauder.

Formula:
This stain-resisting intensive care is equipped with an exclusive complex "Spot Correcting Complex", which decreases the existing spots. The brown spots like are gummed. Protective credits and a derivative of vitamin C, prevent the appearance of the spots by reducing the too great activity of tyrosinase and the mélanocytes. A mixture of antioxydants derived from plants (roots, apple, cucumber, grape, blackberry) bring a complete defense against the free radicals and the environment.

Ental Rimser from Pier Augé (I am using it and it really works for dark spots and dark circles under eyes)

Formula:
Very concentrated in biostimulants and proteins whose amino acids activate the oxygenation of fabrics and regenerate them, it makes it possible the cells to find the energy which they need to repair the cutaneous incidents: first wrinkles, contour of the eyes, scars, tasks pigmentary, dilated pores

This is why the Shiseido care has an in-depth action based on the theory of "the dynamic homeostasis" which seeks to restore the balance of each layer of the skin. Thanks for all the info thehepburn and Katarina! Since I'm young, I think I'll stick with using "a very good sunscreen." I'm a little iffy about the skin lighteners...

I'm currently using Neutrogena's Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock SPF 30 :innocent:

My mother used this. it was $85 and it didnt work.

Neutrogena Dry Touch SPF 30 is not a stable formulation. The Dry Touch SPF 55 is.

I think it's not the same for all,for some persons it works very well, and for others,no results.I have a friend who used Renitriv of Estée Lauder, and it worked for her.

Personally,I can talk about my own experience with Ental Rimser, and it really works.

Also,I think u should not wait for a miracle after only few days of use, most of the lightening creams/against dark spots, even the best, give results after one month of use at least, not less than that.
