Best Sunblock,& difference between sunblock & sunscreen

hey.. im thinking of getting a sunblock as summer is starting now, but i have no experience in skincare products,& a friend of mine recommended "Photoderm MAX spf 100" , so any advices here??
my skin colour is not white (resembles eva longoria's a bit), so i dont wanna get a darker tone from the sun, should i get a sunblock or sunscreen? & what's the difference between them anyway??
also if i got photoderm, should i get the milk, cream or fluid? i dont want it to be greasy as i tend to have oily skin in summer.

any help please??:flower::flower:

I'm going through this dermatological treatment that requires me to wear spf 55 minimum daily on my face, and I've been using Neutrogena Ultra Sheer (the one with helioplex). It's great, very light, doesn't leave my face greasy or white or cause breakouts and clog poring like many sunscreens do. I highly recommend it.

La Roche Posay vs. Shiseido

^ I've heard rave reviews about La Rouche Posay too. Is it ideal to use on sensitive skin like the face?

Right now, I'm in search for a good sunscreen to use on the face that is preferably fragrance free, won't cause breakouts, clog pores, make your face look oily, and able to withstand blazing sun in temperatures over 100 degrees F. I'm going on vacation this summer to the tropics so need something strong.

Last summer, when I used Neutrogena Ultra Sheer SPF 55 on my face, I had an allergic response and had rashes. But it was okay when I put it everywhere else on the body.

Recently, I was looking into getting Clinique City Block but after reading reviews, it seesm like it causes breakouts in a lot of people so I don't think I'll be getting that.

Right now, I'm thinking about getting either La Rouche or Shesido sunscreen. Would appreciate anyone's experience with either or new suggestions! :flower:

I've got both the La Roche Posay Anthelios XL SPF 60 Face and Body Cream (For Sun Sensitive Skin) and the Shiseido Ultra Sun Protection Cream (Very Water Resistant) SPF 50 For Face.

The Shiseido one has got a bit of a fragrance to it (smells nice) and does not make your face look greasy at all. It takes less than five minutes for it to absorb into my face (though the package does recommend applying it 15 minutes before you go into the sun for maximum absorption).

The La Roche-Posay one does make my face look greasy, but I usually don't mind if I'm outside due to sports. Plus it protects really well against both UVA and UVB rays (It is the patent-holder for mexoryl, meaning only this brand has got this product.) Plus, my dermatologist is a big La Roche-Posay fan.

When I was at the pharmacy I noticed another La Roche-Posay suncreen with Mexoryl in it that, when I tried it, did not make my face look greasy. It was a lower SPF though, and you had to reapply it every hour instead of every 3-4 hours like the one that I have.

Also, there is no fragrance added to the La Roche-Posay suncreen.

Hope this helps you out. Since you get rashes from creams I would recommend going to a drugstore that lets you try out the suncreens before you buy them.

Ciao!

What's your favourite non-greasy sunscreen?

I am on the hunt for the perfect non-greasy, easily absorbed sunscreen for acne prone skin. If anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear from you :flower:

I am using a boots face one on my face which is great sinks in lovely, doesn't feel greasy, but...
its smells of sick. Seriously.

right now i'm using lancome soleil ultra 'very high protection face cream' it's lovely & i love the rose scent.
but i'm not too sure about the level of protection, although it has mexoryl sx the PPD isn't too high?
might go back to the la roche posay i was using, but that was so greasy! you can't win!
next on my list to try is the l'oreal solar expertise face cream w/mexoryl

^I'm considering getting lancome's suncreen. Either Soleile ultra spf 50 for face and body or Bienfait Multi-Vital SPF 30. How did you like soleil? What do you mean by you're not sure about the level of protection, was it a low spf or active ingridients? Lancome just come out with a new sunscreen, UV Expert 20 with Mexoryl. But I'm confused why they're marketing it as the only one with mexoryl that was FDA approved in the US. I thought there were other sunscreen with mexoryl, La Rouche Possay??

Sunblock that dont bleach cloth

Anyone else have a problem with sunblock bleaching the collar of their cloth? Are there specific ingredients to avoid to prevent this from happening? I also notice this happening with antiperspirants.

I agree, my mom loves the new ultra sheer. For sunscreen, a person can't go wrong with neutrogena:flower:

I can use only spectamban60. Just only put it on my face and neck but never thought about ears ! Will try it tomorrow.

I use ROC 60SPF spray on my body & neck. it's heavy, takes a lot of rubbing in and not very cheap, then there is Garnier SPF60 for Kids, which is very greasy but cheaper. On my face I use Vichy spf 60, but it makes my skin very shiny and it's also about 30$ for a very small bottler to last you a week.

I used to use ultra sheer but they were out at my drug store so i went ahead and got Neutrogena Age Shield. It supposedly has Vitamin C and all that. It works just as great.

Has anyone used MAC's suncreens? They have a beach-ready pack that I might purchase, as I'll be spending 10 straight days on a beach coming up in August. It's for the face and it's SPF 50. Thoughts?

Also, obviously I want to wear suncreen, but I also want to tan. Are there suncreens that can prevent burns (I don't burn easily anyway) and still let you tan? And could someone recommend one to me?

I think it's pretty accurate to assume there is no way you can get a tan if you use 50 sunblock and re-apply every three hours, as recommended. I bought a new SPF 40 for kiids by La Roche POsay, as I walk around in the sun a lot and I'm as pale as a mushroom. I think generally, if you want a natural tan you have to accept it's going to cause certain damage. Just make sure you use a sunblock, I think with SPF 25 you can still sun tan but not get burned.

I want to try the La Roche Posay as I've read about it for years at the makeupalley.com boards as it's everyone's favorite. I used to use the Natura Bisse Sun Cream with SPF 30 and it had a bit of a tint to it so you dont end up looking too white. It was great and it made my skin look flawless and illuminated.

Anyone know where to purchase the La Roche Posay instead of online?

I want a daily sunscreen, but I don't want to look greasy. Is there a sunscreen with mexoryl that won't make me look greasy? Oh, and if anyone can recommend a moisturizer/sunscreen I would be so grateful.
TIA

Is this part of MAC's regular line, do you know?
