Bitten by Sarah Jessica Parker

From those pictures, I can´t say that I am excited about her line. And the name is quite dumb, I think.

i agree 100 percent...

According to fashionista.com:

PS - thanks to the tipster who emailed in and said they're already trying to redesign the line because of the reaction. we doubt it's true, but there's still a little time until June 7th...

I hope they are re-designing it. SJP can do so much better.

^ I would hope so. The clothes that were posted so far didn't look that bad but they did look quite cheap.

i think the clothes look like future landfill fodder.

i think having 500+ items is over reaching.

Aaah, now i see!
steve and barry's hit the jackpot this year with a super cheap basketball shoe endorsed by Stephon Marbury called the starbury. the shoe is doing REALLY well.
the shoe costs $14.98.
so it makes sense that SJP think she can break records with steve and barry's as well.
we dont have many of these stores in my state and the 5 stores that there are in my state are located in very economically depressed areas.

there's a steve and barrys at the manhattan mall in NYC. maybe i will check it out to see what it is like in june.

the starbury basketball shoes are a good demonstration that you can combine fair manufacturing conditions with a reseasonable price. items from big brands like nike only spends not more than 3 percent of the retail price for the labour for a pair of sport shoes. the rest are charged for profit and marketing.
the statement by sjp that fashion should be right, rather a luxury only priviliged people can afford has a true content for me. does only the price tag decide the value of clothes? should not the concept and the design be priorly judged?
i don´t know if the bitten line will be made without the use of sweatshops and the first pictures remind me of the L.O.G.G collection by H&M. but i like the idea of her low priced line. hope that this makes sense.

the clothes aren't super-exciting but i think to talk about them as "fashion" is besides the point. sjp has always been open and vocal about growing up poor as a kid, and i think this whole bitten thing (not to mention the $$$ she stands to make) speaks to that part of her. a large part of her appeal, i think, comes from the fact that she's become this fashion icon from this kind of hard-scrabble background that isn't that far removed from a lot of people's experiences in this country. she's relatable in that sense. if some kids with not a lot of money feel special wearing these clothes because they have her name on it, then i think that's great. everyone deserves that feeling, even if the clothes are really everyday and normal.

that said, i do wish the clothes had a bit more flair...but hey, with 500+ items (!!!), i'm sure there's one or two items that could stand out.

since everyone is doing their own fashion line, why not Patricia Field?!?!?! at least I liked the job she did on SATC

excerpt from wwd....they are NOT redesigning the line.

Oprah Winfrey's power to publicize an author, a star or a designer is legendary, so naturally she was promised an exclusive on the unveiling of Sarah Jessica Parker's new Bitten line for mass chain retailer Steve & Barry's. But last week, Gawker founding editor Elizabeth Spiers' new blog site, Fashionista, published photographs from a password-protected area of a preliminary Bitten Web site intended only for long-lead-time monthly magazines. When attorneys from Steve & Barry's requested Fashionista remove the photos, it did, but by then dozens of other blogs had already posted images, giving plenty of potential customers the chance to put in their two cents.

"I always thought SJP had great personal style, now I see she had a great personal stylist! They look a lot like those clothes she modeled for those Gap ads she did a while back, especially those cuffed jeans!" said one commentator on Fashionista.

On other sites, readers praised the "Sex and the City" star for making affordable fashion for the masses instead of inking a potentially more lucrative contract elsewhere. Parker has said she was drawn to the low-cost retailer because she grew up one of eight children in a family that faced financial difficulties.

The next day, Fashionista blogger Faran Krentcil received an anonymous e-mail from a tipster who claimed to work with the Bitten team and said they are trying to redesign the pieces. The e-mailer speculated the change-up had perhaps been prompted by the online storm of criticism. A few hours after Fashionista published the photographs, the password-protected area of the Bitten Web site disappeared, so the images are no longer available to the press.

"We are not changing a thing in the line," said Howard Schacter, chief partnership officer for Steve & Barry's. "We are incredibly excited about it. The Bitten line is several hundred pieces, we're thrilled with it, and nothing is being changed or added as a result of anything that's transpired over the last few weeks." He acknowledged an unnamed media outlet was promised an exclusive — and still has it — but declined to specify further. A spokeswoman for Harpo Productions, Winfrey's production company, said the Sarah Jessica Parker line will be on the show but said she did not have a confirmed air date.

Krentcil, for her part, praised the line and said she would wear it, but allowed it didn't have a recognizable "signature look" like other high-low efforts, such as Madonna for H&M or Proenza Schouler for Target. "And that was disappointing," she said.

Those clothes don't look innovative and what I'd expect from SJP at all :( They look like basic pieces (except for the camo pants) a person could buy anywhere.

The clothes are like a children's section at WalMart.
the whole actor/singer/dancer/designer/entrepreneur/dog-walker/shoemaker/candlestickmaker thing is going a bit too far.
Well said.

yeah but even if it looks like Gap it's still loads cheaper. From the comments on here I thought it would look terrible but i think it looks quite cute!

WOW THOSE PICTURES!! looks like someone has been doing some intensive research on the archives of... OLD NAVY!!!

i dont wanna bring the whole discussion back but... anyone still thinks she deserves the same credit kaiser karl does?

They don't look too bad, but it's definately not "fashion." Just clothes. Really, really cheap clothes.

^no, she doesnt deserve same credit as Kaiser (or even the Olsen Twins)

love sjp, but it's all so so boring.
might as well have just hooked up with gap again.

But its all under 20 dollar isnt it? And a lot of people dont like clothes that are so like not simple. It looks wierd. We all need some simple staple pieces in our wardrobe verse OTT designs. I love her bitten range. Its simple and something that you dont ahve to be a supermodels to pull off. You can layer add your own touches etc

Wow, I'm suprised with this collection. The pieces are so generic looking. I'm sure if I was told to do so I could go and find each piece @ either the Gap or JcPenney's. I'll be even more suprised if this turns out to be sucessful.
