Recently I have developed some nasty blackheads. Girls keep on muttering about 'exfoiliating'. Could someone elaborate and tell me of a product that does this effectively for not much money (preferably hypo-allergenic)?

my husband used my old st ives apricot scrub some think it is too harsh but it works for the tough skin in the nose and got rid of his or most of his blackheads.... if you get a facial you will walk out with none but some dont like facials like my husband would not walk in there for a thousand dollars but they extract them all!

What also is good for cleansing the face is some steam.

What I do is boil a big pot of water, and then hold my face over it for 5-10 minutes. It's a good cleanse. :flower:

Thanks, lele and Elle Glamour. Facials are for girls though...way too embarrassing for a man.

i totally understand.....
i know it is a double standard and not fair but i agree with you.... if my husband got them i would feel like he was a bit to vain for me.... i like the rugged look to a man but black heads really are not a part of that for me so get some of the st ives and try it out!

Im a guy and I use the St. Ives Apricot scrub. Although my facialist nearly had a heart attack when i told her i used it. She said it is way to abrasive. Try using Ellen Lange's Chemical Peel.. works wonder for everything, including blackheads.

exfoliating is good but try also the nose clear pore strips by NIVEA (or other brands)
that is the one thing that i really believe in and have seen excellent results when it comes to extracting black heads immediately :flower:

I'll have a go but last time I tried them it removed all the skin from my nose and left the blackheads!

prince- some salons have facials formulated just for men :ninja:

my husband uses the men's scrub from clinique and also a treatment product with salicylic acid in it like Loreal Pure Zone. really makes his blackheads clear up.

I dont know about exfoliation having anything to do with blackheads removal  ...Exfoliation is removing dull skin cells from skin surface, but blackheads are inside the pores.. If you don't find the idea of a facial appealing, I suggest you to do what Elle said about boiling water and covering your head with a towel, so you can keep the steam in your face for longer...keep it for 10 minutes, then go to a mirror and with a soft sponge or a towel, squeeze the area with blackheads...the towel or sponge works as a barrier so your nails wont leave any mark... after that, I would suggest you to use an exfoliator, I suggest Estee lauder's Idealist Micro D. If you wouldnt spend that much money on an exfoliator, you can get some salt or sugar, and apply it on damp skin and scrubbing gently... :flower:

I used to have blackheads on my nose and I went and visited my dermo and he prescribed me a miracle cream! It smells kind of funky but to this day- no blackheads!

purely exfoliating isnt going to get rid of blackheads, you need to combine it with steaming and masks like the others have said.

as for product suggestions, I love Chanel's Gommage Eclat Express

pink - let me know what it is!!!

contrary to other opinions.... exfoliating has cleared up blackheads alone for myself and my husband i just heard from my dermatologist that the st ives tears your skin apart! so I stopped.....

the best way to do it is like leyla said..........with the clear pore strips

make sure u follw the instructions though! :important: the use a pore refining gel to make your nose completely smoothe

just playing devils advocate here....

my dermatologist told me to never use the clear strip thingies because they tear off top layers of skin exposing more to your pores and actually work against you.... she said it will seem like you are cleaning them out because of what you see on the strip but to not use them....but there always seem to be contradictions....

Thanks for all the help people....

I'll try a few of your suggestions but I hate putting most chemicals on my face so only a few. I don't mind the idea of a scrub, sounds pretty natural. As does steaming.
