what do you think of the fashion world's new obsession with india? what are the hot must haves and must nots and ho had it in their collection?

It's not really a new obsession, designers and everyday people have been looking at Indian culture for a long time for inspiration.I've seen many people wearing tunic tops and gold embroidered blouses for a while. My mom was born in Bombay,India and she wears Indian jewelry and traditional clothing (Sari's). And we're Chinese! Also, home decor stores like Pottery Barn, Pier 1 Imports and even Ikea, have been carrying Indian style home merchandise for years now. Maybe things pop up a little more quickly where i'm from!? :flower:

Love Indian clothes, their so beautiful- I don't watch plenty of Bollywood, but this movie called Devdas had the richest clothes ever.

Any one that knows any Indian languages please help me define SOME Of the styles like Lengha, Chori...

There are many more terms, but these are the most common i would think.

i think selwaar kameez is what we call the punjabi suit here
am doing research for an article
Thanks alot Butterfly and everyone else

meanwhile my fave is the Churidaar Kameez i had never seen them before they look better than the selwaar!

abit offtopic but does anyone think that aishwalla is getting abit too commercialized like jlo>

I love Bollywood msuic

i think 'ethnic' influences are all over s/s 2005 runways.

I love indian music too, and the aesthetic, very original.
About fashion, I like ethnic style, and indian style, but in some pieces, not a total bolywood look.

I really like them but think I might look slightly ridiculous in a saree (being blonde and fair skinned), however I'm a bridesmaid at my best friend's wedding in Sri Lanka at Christmas and we will be dressed in Sarees. -We get to keep the Sarees, are they worth much?

Would anyone here want one? (Mine will be light blue with silver detail)

i think there a lot being made in india and pakistan...but all of it isnt necessarily good. infact, only a fraction of designers are coming up with original, classy designs...all the others it seems are busy copying each other and western cuts to gaudiness.

i just scanned these 2 pics but they're too big to post... i'll resize them and post em later :P

 the australian designer katie davenport has some beautiful indian pieces... she went there and hand picked the silk
