Céline S/S 2012 Paris

some pieces are really hideous, to be honest...
Anyway, how long can this Phoebe's [MINIMAL] Celine fever last? Questioning....

Y every season is their best collection so far?! It's so wired, probably the huge advertising money talking. For me this is not the most exciting collection for me, but I can't expect she can be the top every seasons. She always make clothes women want to wear, for me, this collection pass. Maybe it's the color, it's not visually woww collection, I need to see this in shop, I always think celine has good quality clothes. I will judge it, when it hits the store.

I personally feel this collection is done in such a way for a reason. It could be this is retail centric - there are some nice, obviously wearable pieces that Celine fans would love. However, for a directional presentation for Fashion Week, they dont appear very exciting. Phoebe's playing it safe I guess.

However, I also dont think this will affect their sales because they have some classics (especially handbags) already in their hand. Merchandise in the stores can always change and have colors if they feel they need to. Probably it's also a strategy from Celine not to show the best stuff on the runway to avoid the early copying by high street. She saves the good stuff for later.

That said, the belt is very Haider Ackerman FW11.

i like this collection... the jackets are gorgeous, the pants are amazing, and the accessories are tempting. She doesn't wow me each season but I am usually quite pleased with her collections. I'd wear a lot of her stuff as a male

I believe this is for the Spring collection mainly. As Celine(like some brands) split and divide one collection for summer and one for spring.

Summer like resort, is all the floral and pop colors. whereas, on the runway, its usually showcase for spring(winter for next fashion show). Which explains for the wintery feel since spring is the transition for Fall next season.

Otherwise, Phoebe listens to the Celine customers feedback and the SAs. Thats why she changed the silhouette. Last season wasn't selling that well, because its mostly the same cut but diff fabric material.

phoebe philo obviously doesn't design to create great runway pictures, i've never been impressed with any show thus far.. but i'm always in awe when i see the celine stuff up close..
Save the first few shows, I'm inclined to agree with you.

Glad to see that She is trying/exloring different ideas instead of sitting in a comfort zone, even if, to me, it does not look that great.

I think it is a good collection! Surprisingly I like the big belts, but when they are slung down low, at the hip, on trousers and pleated skirts. In fact, the latter along with the red and white tennis sweaters make me think of 1920s, flappers, even Coco a little. Philo's work with leather here continues to stand out. But some of my favorite looks involved sheer overlay, the dress below and the trousers - they are either two-toned or they have an overlay in the front only. Anyhow, to me they look downtown cool - very Celine.

Well it's all subjective really isn't it. They might well think you're talking unbelievable crap saying that?

Not for critics it isn't, these days the most derogatory comment a critic will ever make about a House of the Moment would be 'this piece may be unflattering' or 'this piece may only be good in editorials', and these wouldn't be for the likes of fashion's goddess Phoebe Philo.
They save up their abuse for the collections of smaller houses who they can dismiss as college projects.

A small label is privileged if a critic condescends to attend their show.
A critic is privileged if a big house condescends to invite them.
Why wouldn't they write well about them?

The biggest label whores in the world are the fashion critics.

So far the silhouette looks rather challenging for me but given the time I might get used to it somehow.

Completely agrees with u. I believe from her experience in Chloe. She will not be stuck with just the classic silhouette. And unlike other designers, who just designs what they want. She listens to what customer wants and explore other shapes, even if it doesn't get accepted well. Rmb when she first created the Luggage, it wasn't a hit at first, everyone said it was heavy and stuff. Now, its sold out everywhere...

Her ideas isn't overly crazy nor too simple. U have to feel the fabric and see the incredible tailoring to it, the unique bonding technique from the house...

Those shoes need to be burned or something. They're hideous.
