I watched the 2nd ' make me a supermodel' and 'American next top model'...
Except the money bonus,I just wonder whether it's the best way to be a topmodel, see, not supermodel.
It's quite hard to discover the models from reality shows on the famous brands' runways and ad campaigns.
Look at some successful models on the Top 50list,none of them came from the tv shows...
So,if a person really want to be a top model,i don't think this is a good approach.Unless, you just want that bonus money.

I feel like we have a topic like this (or similar)? Maybe I am wrong, sorry if I am :flower:

But Suvi is from a TV show, modelschool in Finland. And Alice Burdeu, although she is not top 50, is pretty successful, and she was in Australia's next top model.

But I agree, it is pretty rare for a girl to become a star after a reality TV show.

Nicole Trunfio and Gemma Ward were also from a model search TV show before ANTM even stargazed.

really??Gemma from a tv show??Interesting...Holly seems disappeared after winning 'make me a supermodel

Gemma was at a final while one of this show and the agent divorsced her there when they saw her as she looked the show

Ksenia Kahnovich, winner of Russia's Next Top Model is probably the most sucessful NTM winner of all time. She's definitely on her way towards becoming a supermodel, without a doubt.
Alice Burdeu, winner of Australia's Next Top Model. Two Vogue covers, Vogue editorials, walked for very elite designers last season, very very sucessful (although she didn't walk this season, suprisingly).
Polina Barbasova, winner of Scandinavia's Next Top Model walked in F/W 09.10 fashion week and was a Givenchy exclusive, which is HUGE for an NTM girl.
Katarzyna Dolinska, from America's Next Top Model is also doing quite well. She's done editorials for L'OFFICIEL, Vogue, Elle, and more and has walked in Haute Couture Fashion Week and walked for Issey Miyake this season.
And then of course Suvi....

oh please. get that out of here. these shows are a joke and everyone knows it. there are flukes, just like anything else, but seriously, they are nothing more than an entertaining train wreck.

Yes, Charlotte, here's a similar topic:

She was actually in the Perth heats but didn't get through to the final round

^DITTO!!! though i love watching these shows. but i agree that this is not the best way if a person want to become a well-known, or should i say, a supermodel. and it's pretty obvious that their primary objective of joining such contest like this is because of the prize money.

yeah, the US show is ridiculous!
Specially since Tyra never was a great model herself...
and the girls they choose are just pathetic, i still remember they choose some 26-year old sometime, my gosh, models retire at that age...

Many winners of any of the US shows don't do anything. About the only one I saw was Jaslene Gonzalez who won on Tyra's show. And where did I see her? Modeling the clothes for the finalists on Project Runway. Not exactly big stuff.

lol. There only good for watching late teens/young adults catty behaviour and people that are quite full of themselves

Exactly, girls with much potential to become successful models don't need to go to these shows, once an agent finds them or they send photos to an agency, that's it, they get signed to an agency right away. Although there's a very small chance that some of those girls that participate in those shows become very successful ones, but that's because it just didn't happen for them to be found before by an agent ... they would sign right away & wouldn't need to participate in any show.

if a person want to become a well-known, or should i say, a supermodel.

Supermodels' times are over. HF models at the moment can't achieve that status, they can only be topmodels. READ! (Eric O'Connor says the same & doesn't like to be called as supermodel.)

How many true super models are there? How many models are really working during any year? And how many are trying to break into the industry?

All these show is open the doors, and give the models a shot.

While some may say the shows are a joke... how many modeling agencies are there out there and model agent and scouts? How many super models have they produced? By these standards, the shows are not doing that bad.

I would also agree that the age of the super model is generally over. Perhaps there will be one or two who can ascend to these heights again, but it does not appear to be so.

Very few supermodels.

All these show is open the doors, and give the models a shot.

Of course they are, nobody said they weren't.

Model Agents can work as scouts too, you can't be a scout without being a Model Agent. If you know you have got potential, you buy a photographic camera, you take some pics & send them via internet or by mail to an agency, you don't need to be found by any scout.
The probably of a model make it big after shows like those are extremely small, although there's always a chance.

Yes, It doesn't appear at all.

The other thing I often wonder... does the industry really WANT more supermodels?

My guess is NO, and that it was during a special time that these very few were able to rise and grow, but by the same token, as they rose, so did their salaries, costs and the like.
