It’s something they don’t prepare you for on “American Idol”: A bug flying into your mouth while you’re belting out a song. (In fact, do Simon and the gang even prepare you for outdoor shows?) Three years after winning “American Idol,” Carrie Underwood has moved on to Country Queen. She’s traded in the aw-shucks Okie-from-Muskogee charm for a sassy Nashville swagger. Saturday night, in front of more than 4,000 screaming fans at Konocti Harbor in Kelseyville, it was on full display as she marched out sing-along radio songs like “Jesus Take the Wheel,” “Wasted” and the smash hit “Before He Cheats” that earned her Billboard’s 2007 country artist of the year.
And then she swallowed a bug. One fan even got specific and called it a firefly. Note to future Idols: Just yell “Gross!” then laugh and keep singing.
So was it formulaic Nashville crap? Sometimes.
Did she have the entire amphitheater singing along to ever word of “Before He Cheats”? Especially the line about “he’s probably buying her some fruity little drink cause she can’t shoot whiskey”?
You’re damn straight she did.
Way beyond her voice - a more than competent if somewhat generic country-girl timbre - her biggest talent lies at the core of old-school entertainment: She knows how to put on a show.
From the early invitation - “If you feel like singing - sing,” she told the crowd. “If you feel like dancing - dance. And if you feel like kissing the person beside you just make sure it’s OK with them first” - to the encore run through Guns ‘n’ Roses’ “Paradise City,” the lakeside cowboy crowd - not boots with the fur, more like boots with the skirts - ate it up.
In a post-Idol world, it’s no small feat considering zeitgeist talent shows don’t always translate into career gold. For every Underwood, there’s a Jordan Sparks or a Taylor Hicks who drop from the public eye faster than you can say Sanjaya.

Here's a few excerpts from Allure magazine.

I don't think Carrie should be talking about Tony, I feel like she keeps opening up old wounds, he is with Jessica, she should just move on and forget about it or stop talking to him. I don't know, I'm getting a little tired of her sulky "poor me" attitude. She has everything at her finger tips, she should just enjoy it.
