Chanel Cruise 2011

The problem is that people sum up Karl's career between 2004-2007, and what people think is Chanel is not Chanel but Karl (and that's huge!). What people mean Chanel being Chanel is the Chanel Karl made between those years. Great Chanel years.

This is unbelievable and it has never happened in fashion before. Many people think some things are so Chanel and she never did it before. That didn't even happen with Marc Bohan, who was the most Dior-alike successor and was the Creative Director of the brand for 28 years (more than Karl at Chanel).

I'm still wondering how these tiny few photographs warrant a thread being created for a collection that won't be shown for just under a month .... just IMHO

I don't know why so many people are against this thread. I remember that for the Chanel resort 2009 collection the thread was also opened before the show and nobody apologized. I don't think it's that serious.

even the chanel thread becomes an "i hate balmain" thread. sure, i'm a balmain fan but let's not pretend that karl lagerfeld at chanel didn't participate in the balmain look. he's partially responsible for many of the looks that decarnin has brought back. lagerfeld WAS an eighties designer. he was part of the big shouldered, mini-skirted, bedazzled look that that designers like decarnin (and dundas and others) reference in their collections.

secondarily, saint tropez arguably represents the same sort of resort lifestyle as miami beach and when he presented a collection there, he gave us logoed minidresses, designer denim, and sparkling nightclub wear from here to eternity. in the end, whether he's in london or los angeles, he knows his audience and presents collections accordingly.

^ Thank you!! I get so sick of the "Photographs go in the photographers thread" and "Models go in the model thread" and " Bags go in the bags thread"!! Come on- we're all here because the subject and the people involved are of interest to us- can't we just deal with the whole story!!?

And (while I'm ranting) many of the things Karl did back in the 90s make these sort of outfits look like confirmation dresses, with huge CCs on neon hot pants and such...The classic Chanel look is almost always there in one form or another, but he has often gone way out in pushing the envelope, too! ;)

Mikeijames, I must suppose you have never seen a Chanel show from the eighties. But I'm going to stop with it right now, definitely it's impossible to get water from a stone.

Saint Tropez is an expensive version of Miami Beach, so this type of collection is kinda expected. Like someone said already, Karl knows he's audience, and especially with his cruise/resort collections he always try to represent the audience the city he is showing in.

I don't even know why we're talking about Balmain, maybe except because some of the models are wearing revealing clothing? But Karl has been showing some skin for ages now. Isn't that one of the many complaints we have against him being in Chanel?

Well, you know Coco was appalled by the mini skirt in the 60s and the idea of women showing much of anything- and after her death the company was reduced to selling almost nothing but perfume..Since Karl has been there it has become, in all likelihood, the single most profitable fashion house ever... Saks in NY has over a hundred people on the waiting list for some of their purses- at $2,600.00 a pop! 'Approve' of it or not, I think it would be hard to build a convincing case against what Karl has done at Chanel...

Why is Chanel turning into a new Balmain?
I see a lot of hate and useless comments here!
Even if the collection wasn't already shown this doesn't mean we can't post pictures showing part of it!
The clothes reminds me a lot of Chanel SS07,which was a very young and cool collection made by Karl, and one of my favorite!

^ really? there is an audience in st tropez? I thought it was the same audience as everywhere else just "going on vacation"...

I don't know in what kind of way is that article related to what we're talking about. It is just the review of the collection and how Karl updated the house of Chanel, of course with the 80's look because they were in the 80's.

Let's not pretend that karl lagerfeld at chanel didn't participate in the balmain look

Balmain may be inspired by the eighties and of course Karl Lagerfeld was a designer in the eighties, but that doesn't mean he has contribute to the new Balmain. If he hadn't existed that surely wouldn't have altered the look of the new Balmain. Besides the Chanel 80's look is not exactly the look from which Decarnin gets his inspiration.

This is so surreal.

KKnardi, good point.

In truth, I'm more interested in pictures of Karl and the Chanel Model Army out shopping and going to lunch, but anyway....

The eighties of Chanel have nothing to do with Decarnin, he gets his inspiration from the 80's (that's so demodé right now though) but not from the eighties of Chanel or Dior. It's another style, more disco...

^Thank you!
KK obviously knows she is IT in that bunch.

Now I can't wait for the show!

Isn't the jacket Freja is wearing the same she wore at FW10 show, or at least a variation? Isn't Heidi's "jacket" the same she wore to open SS10 show? I'm pretty sure they are...

like i said, i only posted pics of the pieces i found relevant.

which is why i didn't post the pics of Freja and the other girls, even tho they're on ONTD too.

i don't do things without thinking about it ;)

Oh, but any information is welcomed here! That is also related with Chanel cruise collection since it's the making-of of the short film. I just wanted to point out that little details because I hope those clothes have nothing to do with the collection, although it might have a similar look.
