Chanel Resort 2010 Venice

Ok I love that last black draped dress in #116 and the first black dress in #117.
Overall I actually like, asides from the wigs. I really can't help but notice the D&G SS 09 similarity with the first few outfits, stripes and all.

I quite like this, much better than the last Cruise collection that's for sure. But then again I tend to think Karl does some of his best work when he taps into the whole 20s/30s side of Chanel. For better or worse that's the era that defines the Chanel image, so it always just feels right. Plus it kind of forces Karl to hold back from his more baroque inclinations and the frou-frou prettiness that's become his go-to forumla. Tapping into the lean, clean, sinuous lines of that era seems to force him to concentrate more on line and drape rather than special effects.

Those red pieces, especially the long column dress, are knockouts.

I don't understand why they choose to show the collection in Venice (one of the most magical city in the whole world) and they end up showing the collection on a beach. We don't feel the Venice atmosphere at all. I was expecting a very different setting.

well
this is THE LIDO, not venice

i guess - and this are just my two cents - he wanted to bring back some glamour to the place (the beach of the excelsior hotel at the lido) where till the late 60s, all the glamour took place (and not only during the festival time)
i mean if you see footage from the late 30s to the 60s that place was roaming with glamourous people everty image looks like a runway - it's not longer like that (unfortunately) but it used to be. i dont know if it makes sense, but that's the only explaination i can find for it

(cause i mean i know the place very well and it's not that faboulous)
plus it would've been impossibile for them to set an event like that in venice, no matter who you are it's just impossibile to set in a city like that especially during this time of the year when it's crazy overrun by tourists and its even impossibile to walk around

That's what I was thinking. It would've been fabulous if there was some way to do the show overlooking the Grand Canal or in St. Mark's square or something, but it just wouldn't be feasable. I mean, Karl is only human at the end of the day (though most of the evidence is to the contrary )

^I wish the show would have been somewhere cooler, but maybe the Piazzetta (sp?) San Marco instead of the main square? The models would arrive via gondola/tour boat and walk between those two columns...much more glamourous.

And I just realized, WWD doesn't have the full show--there are still a few looks missing, so 50 pictures must be their limit in their gallery mode. (Possibly)

I'm actually surprised. It's a nice collection and there are some stand out pieces for sure. Minus the wigs, there a far less gimmicks this time 'round, which is nice.

i love it. there is definitely some bad stuff, but overall i think it's great.

this much better than that foolishness karl presented in moscow.

I loved this collection with a few exceptions, Like those transparent boots, but overall it was beautiful.

I think this collection is better than last 3 years of Chanel RTW lol , its not that kiddish teen vibe that most of the RTW chanel shows have , its modern but it has that 20/30s Coco Chanel allure, and after falls whored out 80s wear this is a very very welcome change eventhough its a cruise collection , but i find chanels cruise collections better than the RTW .

lovely collection the wigs were
soooooo distracting though
it was hard to enjoy with those hideous things

I love everything about this collection, I dont even mind the wigs they are not that bad
Love the setting, and the fact that it was during sunset make the collection look romantic.
Defenetely better than last resort and better than the fall collection imo

That last photo with the finale I'm guessing looks like a band of femme Zorros marching down the boardwalk

Those black caped looks are a bit like Carnival, no? It's either that or "Eyes Wide Shut".

i LOOOOVEEE this collection. no matter what anybody says Chanel will always be my favorite designer
