Chanel S/S 2012 : Saskia de Brauw & Joan Smalls by Karl Lagerfeld

These are my thoughts on these ads after seeing all the new pics in Elle UK.
Firstly they look amazing as a whole and are printed on slighter thicker paper than the rest of the mag. They are also very glossy, even in B&W this is an advantage.
Whether the collection actually works with this theme is a matter of opinion, but these ads really sell the clothes.
For me, Saskia is more or less a replacement for Stella Tennant.....and on some pics, at first glance, I thought it was Stella. Joan Smalls more than holds her own here and the shot on the ladder/rings is the standout.
Very impressive ads.

Very, very Lindbergh/Santoro/90s Vogue Italia in a good way. I have never liked a Chanel campaign like this since F/W 2008 with Claudia. The last shot with Saskia is the big revelation. ^_^

Love the cinematic feeling, best Chanel campaign in years.

still don't like Karl's photography skills (or lack thereof) but the set looks quite alright. the last, the pearldiver shot takes the cake tho.

I like some of the images posted by vogue28, they're better than first two shots, but this one looks ridiculous to say the least.

Never liked Saskia but she's definitely owning this. Joan is kinda boring.

I can't deal with this right now. I agree with whoever said chemistry. Chanel has always had models with chemistry - think Linda and Christy...

Joan holding the pearls has proved unfavorable, when I think it's the best one. Carine's name is written all over that particular image. I was questioning Joan's presence in this campaign, but I've been shown different. I'm anticipating more shots to surface.

Is it Joan who's holding the pearls in the last shot? Silly me. I thought it was Saskia. :D

i'm with you on that shot, mostly cause it's more than just a picture from an ad campaign. it's injected with just the right amount of tongue in cheek humor.

This Saskia is the worst looking model since the peak of Laura Hollins. I find her photographs totally unappealing, they literally put me off. If they used another model this might have been interesting.

the campaign is try hard iconic. something doesn't feel right.

and are those socks with heels?

The pearl diving shot is the worst for me, but Joan still has the best shots in the campaign. She seems to be much stronger on those bars than Saskia. Poor girl kinda looks like she is holding on for dear life in some of them!! I still think it is a great campaign.

Best Chanel campaign in years, thanks a lot for the new bunch of images, Vogue28!.

This is such a refreshing departure from the attempts of recent years to 'hipster-ise' the brand, you look at this already and can't even tell the year, only that it is a Chanel campaign, and that's what I love about it, Chanel's always been about evolution but also about timelessness and always inside its own world and I love that all of the elements involved here convey that. Very beautiful campaign, I have a feeling Karl was influenced or at least went through some of Koto Bolofo's pictures in order to produce this.. I only wish other photographers were allowed to photograph Chanel's campaigns.. one can only imagine what this would've looked like if Koto Bolofo had been really behind this.

It`s really boring. Vogue Italia`s January cover is a much more better campaign than this one

exactly. I can't quite believe that it was actually Karl that shot this.
I kind of feel like later on I'm going to look back at this moment and remember how epic it was for Joan

cast me with your lot. and this remains quite a task for one of the most trendy collections we've seen from the house in some time. we had everyone from givenchy to mcqueen to versace to chanel tackling the idea of the sea this season, leave it to carine to remind us that, in the end, chanel is truly timeless. this campaign could just have easily have spilled out of a magazine twenty years ago....in the best possible way. also, i'm impressed that they pulled out this sportiness and youthfulness from a collection that evoked anything but on the runway.
