It seems that the next few years are going to be great for her. Playing The Evil Queen, starring in Ridley Scott's next film and Young Adult. I'm guessing she wanted a break for a few years.

I believe "Young Adult" has been filmed, but she is still in negotiations to co-star in the Alien prequel (i believe the title is Prometheus) and in terms of the Evil Queen that mey be in doubt since the Julia Roberts version is out of the gates earlier Theron's version may not get off the ground.

Charlize Theron Officially Joins PROMETHEUS

Casting on Ridley Scott’s Prometheus seems to be moving right along. After mulling over the part for a while now, Variety reports that Charlize Theron has officially joined the cast as the character “Vickers”. What was previously developed as a prequel to Alien, Prometheus is a wholly original film from a script by Damon Lindelof (Star Trek, Lost). Noomi Rapace (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) is set to headline the film, with Michael Fassbender (X-Men: First Class) starring as well. Plot details are sparse but Scott maintains that keen fans will spot “Alien DNA” in the film. Prometheus is slated for June 3rd, 2012.
