Cover Rumor Thread

Photos leaked of Rihanna, A$AP, and their baby doing a photoshoot on the beach in Malibu. Looked to me like it was Inez and Vinoodh taking photos. Doesn't necessarily mean it's a cover, but any thoughts?

If it's for a magazine cover, I can see it being for Vanity Fair maybe?

It’s definitely Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin taking the photos, but I’m unable to recognise any of the stylists behind the shoot, via the one photo of the crew on The Daily Mail.

It’s I&V for sure. I would say it’s probably Vogue or Elle, but I didn’t/see/recognize the stylist. Can anyone ID the dress Ri is wearing?

Yikes January Feb for US VOGUE?

(commenting cause the thread is at 2022)

Would they give Rihanna the March cover to coincide with the month of her Superbowl performance, or would we already see her in the February issues as promotion ahead of the concert? Perhaps an International deal for Elle, considering that a first official appearance of the Rihanna family seems like a pretty big scoop (which would've been bigger had she not revealed the baby on TikTok already). I'm sure she'll deliver, as per usual, but I can't say that I'm excited to see this. Now if there was a certain album announcement included, I'd be all in... but until then, I'm afraid she's got nothing to offer that interests me personally.

Can’t see Alex in the photos, but there’s some who could be Andrew Mukamal? I can’t tell.

With a star as big as Rihanna agreeing to do family photos, I imagine she herself would be able to more or less dictate to a magazine what photographer she wants. So I’m not sure I&V mean it must be Elle (though a global deal makes sense). For all we know, though, this was a private shoot for a last minute holiday card or something.

The Jan issue of Vogue USA was combined with the Dec issue. We won’t see a new cover until the Feb issue.

May I know who confirmed this? Quite baffling that they didn't put Dec/Jan on their JLo cover if they planned a double issue.

It was confirmed some pages back, I believe.

My understanding was that Anna Wintour had addressed in her December editor’s letter that American Vogue’s January and February issue would be combined to form a Winter issue.

That’s true. Im expecting it to be multi covers for the “winter issue”. Fresh faces or something that hasn’t appears on American Vogue before.

They will keep the Vogue Values theme or it's just "forget it, nothing changed for good"?.

And what were these Vogue Values?

“For over a century, Vogue has empowered and embraced creativity and craftsmanship; celebrated fashion, and shined a light on the critical issues of the time. Vogue stands for thought-provoking imagery and intelligent storytelling. We devote ourselves to supporting creators in all shapes and forms. Vogue looks to the future with optimism, remains global in its vision, and stands committed to practices that celebrate cultures and preserve our planet for future generations. We speak with a unified voice across 26 editions standing for the values of diversity, responsibility and respect for individuals, communities and for our natural environment.”

'Intelligent storytelling' is noticeably absent from the content, and 'thought-provoking imagery' would only get you cancelled these days. 'Remains global' - a constant cycle of reprints, Vogue Value achieved. 'Celebrate cultures' - culture not specified, could be anything, here's a reprint instead. 'Preserve our planet for future generations' - good job it's last on the list, because the ever-changing world of fashion consumption is a negative factor.

And that's not going anywhere near Conde Nast's political leanings that mean diversity of that coverage is generally not achieved, or their absolute submission to the social media hive mind, where Conde Nast dresses up their decisions as an elevated process, when really, people online crack the whip and they follow.
