And what were these Vogue Values?
“For over a century, Vogue has empowered and embraced creativity and craftsmanship; celebrated fashion, and shined a light on the critical issues of the time. Vogue stands for thought-provoking imagery and intelligent storytelling. We devote ourselves to supporting creators in all shapes and forms. Vogue looks to the future with optimism, remains global in its vision, and stands committed to practices that celebrate cultures and preserve our planet for future generations. We speak with a unified voice across 26 editions standing for the values of diversity, responsibility and respect for individuals, communities and for our natural environment.”
'Intelligent storytelling' is noticeably absent from the content, and 'thought-provoking imagery' would only get you cancelled these days. 'Remains global' - a constant cycle of reprints, Vogue Value achieved. 'Celebrate cultures' - culture not specified, could be anything, here's a reprint instead. 'Preserve our planet for future generations' - good job it's last on the list, because the ever-changing world of fashion consumption is a negative factor.
And that's not going anywhere near Conde Nast's political leanings that mean diversity of that coverage is generally not achieved, or their absolute submission to the social media hive mind, where Conde Nast dresses up their decisions as an elevated process, when really, people online crack the whip and they follow.
