what does the writing at the bottom say ??
oh it says '1000 songs. fifty years of pop ...' it was an ad for a book+cd edition that süddeutsche zeitung is publishing and debbie was on the cover of the 1978 issue...

:woot: just found this editorial on jedroot, the photographer is patrick shaw and the inspiration is obvious:heart:
hope it hasn't been posted yet:

Ohhhh Debbie Harry.

I was in my mid-teens when Blondie was at its biggest, so I remember her influence on me well. Agree with you all....a lovely woman indeed. Her facial structure is perfect, her smile terrific; have a look at the videos for Heart of Glass, The Tide is HIgh, Rapture or especially Atomic to see how captivating she is.

A big part is her attitude. Unsullied by controversy. Unembellished by piercings or tattoos. A bit demure but also edgy. Not flaunting but just radiant in her natural attractiveness.

I think the word "icon" doesn't even do Debbie Harry justice! She's just so fascinating on so many levels but the most interesting thing about her that separates Debbie from all the other stars in music is the fact she is both hard and soft at the same time and I just find that element about her so unbelievable. The IRONY in her image is so freaking cool and no one in rock history has ever achieved that. She's both class and trash, punk and glamour, mainstream and alternative.

If you can say that you were Andy Warhol's favorite pop star, Williams Burroughs was your friend, your designer (stephen sprouse) was so loyal to you that he turned Madonna down, every freakin' female performer from Gwen to Ashley Simpson calls you an idol, fashion shows and accessories named after you, you've done pop, rock, disco, rap, jazz, theater, movies and millions of boys and girls have masterbated to your posters and wanted to be you, the you must be Debbie Harry and the icon of all icons!

Slightly off-topic, but this is a question which has been bothering me (ever so slightly) for years and years... I don't understand when, for instance, Blondie is called punk. Punk to me is dirtier, rawer; Sex Pistols and safety pins, sort of. Bands and looks like Blondie's are quite polished after all... Why is it punk?

There seems to be a divide about classification on the two sides of the big pond?

Am I simply confused?

I believe that you really can't define blondies music, they did music they loved and music that inspired them, for example reggae in the tide is high, rap in rapture, some of their songs have a distinct punk feel while others feel more pop, I mean you really can't class heart of glass as punk, it's disco, I think the reason they are classed as punk is because of their image, the band truely was and still is iconic.

I was thinking to be her in a halloween party tomorrow where the theme is rock stars..I checked out the pics here but maybe someone can give me some advice of how to dress..I like the pic with the jeans, black jacket and white shirt--but maybe people's not going to understand who I am..maybe it's not so typical..

This is the pic I meant..

^ Thats gorgeous!! Loving that outfit & Debbie Harry of course  Its funny how everyone is dressing like that these days...

Why dont you try doing your hair like her & make up? A wig if possible and you have got to have the trashy heels!

I love her.
She's probably the only one whose style I liked from the 80's.
I have a strong distaste for the 80's.

I agree completely; I  her. Even her voice has that "hard soft" quality.

I cringe whenever somebody like gwen stefani is compared to her.

The 'mirror suit' shown here is phenomenal - and all that Stephen Sprouse! Her wardrobe is a portal to endless inspiration.

^ The first is described as a 'turn-of-the century walking suit', the second is BY Lilli Ann and of the '40s and both were previously owned and worn by Harry herself. I wish I'd run across more findings of this kind, because they bring me indescribable joy... :p

I saw Blondie in concert recently, and I was so close I was leaning on the stage. I was in awe for about four songs. I could barely move.

love her, i live in williamsburg and 1/2 the girls try to be her but just look hmmmm... but i am happy she is still appreciated
