Demna Gvasalia - Designer, Creative Director of Gucci

^I wonder if that is Cantino's influence. I don't remember Demna ever remotely referencing that era but the Golden Age of Hollywood, Marilyn Monroe, etc. was Fabio's primary obsession his entire career and Miuccia said her biggest fantasy and icon is Elizabeth Taylor.
nope zero
Demna interview at last HC he talks about hollywood and his childhood obsession (he want to explore more )

its either with suzy or bof or one of the many shorts vids of him backstage i did not save it.

Cantino is a nobody a puppet put in place by Bellatini to be his right hand and left and eyes and ears.

I would not be surprised he will be on the list right after Bellatini lady to be gone via new kering Boss.

the guy was never a ceo nor a visionmaker much like bellatini

its true Fabio has a Marilyn Monroe obsession.

But no Demna want to be in LA because Milan he hates and LA he feels is the center to connect gucci to the rest of the world he will link gucci allot to celebrities culture you seen how it works for balenciaga edgy brand having a roster of top actress and the biggest influencer like kim and rap star etc gucci POP.

also perfect to do after parties dr+g rub shoulder with rights people etc etc
milan in the sh*tty factory office is not it .

Demana does not take inspiration from Cantino lol taht would be a new low bar even for him.

So now it will be "Made in Italy...from L.A."???

Also in USA...where the Balenciaga pedogate was strong as hell??

I mean FHP is living in LA and his office is there so I'm not surprised...having said that Demna simply HAVE TO pull that off otherwise they'll show him the doors and, frankly speaking, I can't see him anywhere else. I'm not sure about that change from September to March as shareholders might not have enough patient left.

Isn’t this common? Hedi was infamously doing Saint Laurent from LA.

With the new CEO and bad news from financial reports, Demna better pull it off. I hope it’s not vapid merch galore, this current climate better shun that.

time for some weekend fun reading :

💥 Gucci what’s going on over there?

Yesterday Demna said to Suzy Menkes that his debut show will happen on March 26. Everybody was expecting September 25.

“My first show will be March 2026 but I will do this year things that will remind people what Gucci is…”
“I cannot do things in two months”

So apparently it’s still not clear what Gucci is…after 5 re-brandings in 20 years.

Demna one will be the 6th…

How can “people” be reminded what the brand is if even its creative director after months doesn’t know is a mystery.

Ah yes, I am too negative
It takes time
Gucci has plenty of time
Why hurry
We have August holidays, we need to be in Patmos

This chat happens after 4 months since the announcement of his appointment.

In the mid-March Vogue Business interview Bellettini and Cantino highlighted that Demna already started working on Gucci months before…

Cantino revealed that Demna was first approached several months ago. Bellettini added: “We went out for dinner. I said: ‘we would really love to talk about this opportunity’. And after a second of thinking he was very excited, and said: ‘Yes! I have it in my mind — let me put together the project for you.’ He worked on that, and when Stefano and I received it for the first time, we were both: ‘Let’s accelerate!.’”

From GQ of April 24
“In last Wednesday's analyst conference, Kering Deputy CEO and Head of Brand Development Francesca Bellettini revealed that Demna will present a first "hint" of the house's new direction in September, presumably during Milan Fashion Week. This news says it all, but, more importantly, what does Bellettini mean when she says "hint"?

Why everything seems so vague still today?

And what are the "things" they will do to support the business before next Spring when the Group is deeply relying on Gucci revenues and profits to survive now?
Is there time to wait, especially as Demna was an internal move?

Are investors and creditors happy?
Or is it better like this?
A strategic postponement?

Why is this confusion happening?
- The lack of clarity when Gucci desperately needs to pump sales now
- March? Does it mean a special show? Or Paris instead of Milan? Usually Gucci opened the Milan Fashion Week but in 2026 it will go from 24th February to March 2nd but the calendar always is confirmed last minute.
- Is Demna in difficulty? Is the Gucci top management in charge and firmly steering the wheel?
- Haven't they accurately planned every single move and statement to release?
- Was the top management aware of this impromptu statement? Did they agree?

Why Kering continues to swim in mystery and uncertainty in the most delicate time of its life when it’s a group listed at the stock exchange?

At the end the customer decides and let’s see Q2 25…..and the next months…

Ah oh yes we already have the answer…
Luca De Meo will solve every issue.

Why hurry?

As my Swiss friends were used to say in Neuch,
Il y a pas feu au lac 🔥

I don’t understand all the panic… it was in the air since months that in september there won’t be a fashion show but just a small presentation with some products immediately sold… sometimes before talking and seing conspirancies everywhere people should inform themselves… she was the one who last week was surprised that Valentino wasn’t showing couture when it was known since january…

Its funny but she knows she stated it (From GQ of April 24 “In last Wednesday's analyst conference, Kering Deputy CEO and Head of Brand Development Francesca Bellettini revealed that Demna will present a first "hint" of the house's new direction in September, presumably during Milan Fashion Week. but she is pushing on another level of frustration which is the news not being cohesive and coherent and clear

so i understand the frustration with the drops of info instead of a clear ceo role out plan when they announced Demna to step in etc
because they pride them self for saying it was all planned but then the plan is not told as one plan but in hints as time passes while they had F´d up with ancora already.

And it does reflect Kering chaos from internal voices or deciding things as things happen and not have a clear plan from the get go.

best they could have done is have Demna say today is about balenciaga soon we will talk more about all thats is (planned for )gucci stay tuned

she posted also these to illustrate the state of luxury fashion lol i get it even if its shady she has a point .

  • What are the key points around this Gucci topic?

  • He cannot make it in two months…is that the proof that it is wrong to delegate to a creative director alone the brand strategy and platform?
  • Nobody is worried and this confirms what I wrote before in this newsletter: There is no Demna Effect, anyway. Sales will not improve thanks to him. I wrote it in mid-March. I am not a witch. I can do my job very well.
  • Nobody read the comments under yesterday presentation of Balenciaga HC on Instagram. For Bellettini who enjoys free advice (from Vogue Business article mentioned here above): they are the best focus groups. No need to pay millions of euro to consulting firms.
  • They are waiting for Luca De Meo arrival in September. A great point. This means putting all decisions and appointments so far under scrutiny, keeping in stand by some key ones and preparing for a very deep restructuring that will totally disrupt the group. They very likely know that 2025 and 2026 are lost, that the right dimensions of revenues are the ones of 2015 and they need to drive the boat back for the future. It will be tough and super risky. That’s why there is a need for Captain Luxury, investors and creditors need to be reassured.
  • Luca De Meo alone cannot do this titanic work, so read back my last Sunday newsletter and the previous ones.
  • Probably September 25 was a bad time for a new chapter show because of the very high expectations and many other new designers presenting collections for brands they recently joined. Fear of comparison?
  • They are preparing a surprise. Maybe. Great for the press and the cheerleaders, but customers want to be reassured, not surprised.
  • Cost saving. Cancelling a show allows to save money, this operation is also the beginning of very tough cost cutting. Inspiration just got now from a dear colleague on Whatsapp in a conversation on a project and for other matters…
  • Apparently there will be improvements in the quality of leather goods but also price increases…the honey trap of margins still rocks.

Fashion has been in denial about the state of Gucci. It is quite telling how the industry has tried to shut down criticisms of Sabato's tenure and how business was being done. She is right, there is NO Demna-effect.

I think it’s more like he doesn’t care at all. It seems like he works at Gucci just for extra cash. That’s why he can do whatever he wants to do, and Gucci can’t control him at all. He wouldn’t even mind even if he get kicked out next season lol. (Even the contract would be super short and it would be less than 2~3 years.)

Also he can just change his mind next week and present full collection in September. At this stage, he just let the studio do most of the work for September presentation or show. I guess nobody knows what the actual plan would be at this moment even Demna himself.

GvvGLaxXsAAvezF.jpgEXCLUSIVE – Kering’s executives start looking for a new job

It’s always best to start looking for a new job while you still have a job if there’s a risk you will be shown the door. That’s the job market rule that some of Kering’s top executives have in mind ahead of the arrival of ex-Renault CEO Luca de Meo, who is due to take over at Kering on Sept. 15. MISSTWEED
