Demna Gvasalia - Designer, Creative Director of Gucci

It's a decent collection, creatively bankrupt, but decent. You can't go wrong with Ford's Gucci.
yet the original tom still looks better and more modern

this zarafication of TOM Fords gucci is too plain.

all we got was horse bite shoes and web track suits and lycra

mixing up different era´s also it will run dry soon,

the 60-70´s marmont gg logo does not fit with sleek tom ford when tome used it it was in a nostalgic rustic john lennon 70´s hippy mens show

but i understand people are happy with crumbs these days.

Title of the collection: Much Ado about Nothing. Or: yawn.

Demna can't help himself, however hard he might try to keep close to Tom's blueprint, at the end the tasteless man he is always prevails (I mean, those men's shoes...). It all looks like Ford-lite copies of the originals for some forlorn outlet in some East-European country. He thinks (maybe) that he's paying homage to Ford's legacy, but in the end this leaves you with the unpleasant aftertaste of trolling more than anything else. And the comparison with what H.A. is doing for TF the brand makes this attempt look even more pathetic than usual.
I'd pay to get into Bellettini's head, beyond the smoke screen of Kering’s almighty marketing posse, and see if she is really convinced that Gucci can go anywhere with this soulless stuff.

The main problem now is: where am I going to buy new sneakers?
Gucci by Demna doesn't offer anything yet and it looks like Balenciaga menswear by PPP is cancelled cause it's been more than 6 months since his appointment and we haven't seen anything male related from him. I don't want to buy another colourway of the 3XL...

Kering could save money getting rid of Demna, if all he is going to make is just re-editions of Tom Ford era (but with his poor taste as an addition this time).

You don´t need to pay such huge amount of money to a single person, when the brand team could make it all for less. You don´t even need a designer to make this.

Good luck to the menswear Demna fans trying to wear these clothes.

It’s generally good, what ruins it for me are the cop out in the nose Gucci motifs.
These are not difficult clothes to wear.

Straight forward, easy cuts and he offered minimal oversized cuts, very few but they are there. This is a product focused prefall collection.

He needs to hire someone to distill his aesthetic into the women’s gowns though, he’s never been great at that.

i love Tom Ford era... wont mind at all... but a good reinterpretation, not this joke, its a caricature. Anyone could do this s*, so why pay Demma?

We haven't seen anything new from Demna since the lackluster "La Famiglia" debut.
I'm not counting those tacky sequined custom gowns for the LACMA event, the input from Demna might have been just on the color choice...
I'm extremely disappointed so far: we haven't seen a bag, a shoe, a campaign, anything.
CHANEL already had 2 runway shows, a dedicated holiday campaign and a revamp of the studio Cruise lookbook.
The store in NYC soho is absolutely tragic right now. It’s all web stripe and GG everything, looks like what my Uber Eats delivery man wears 😭

What makes it a caricature?
the level of camp from bad taste irony hair and makeup to the amateurish execution of copy paste out of context collection items set included.

mimicking the past but done not elevated enough could be a SNL sketch wardrobe of 90´s people dressing in gucci at some after party in the hills
or small budget lifetime movie where the wardrobe designer got few original pieces of tom ford gucci but because of budget had get some knock off look alike items to finish the actors looks with for the scenes.

that's caricature when its clumsy/exaggerated and more funny than the reality devoid of precision and seriousness of a concept
its giving All's Fair season 2

That’s imho the main issue for Gucci, more than Demna or Sabato, it’s their cultural significance.
They need to ditch offering monograms asap and take the loss, in order to phase out its cultural significance and switch the desirability of the brand from delivery men to UHNWIs.

But this kind of decision is way above the pay grade of Demna and Sabato… it’s between Francesca and Di Meo and their shareholders.

You’ll notice Demna is understanding that: this Gucci Generation collection has strictly the bare minimum of monograms a Gucci CD can send on a runway/lookbook

but demna likes tacky for his gucci hacker project he choose gg bags as well with spray painting on it
the briefs to the team for research as i mentioned at the start of his gucci months was the mistress the tramp mafia son etc

that type of niche dark energy does not work at a big brand this size ..i see he is trying to keep his dark and sl*tty side in gucci via tom ford era as a way to get it still out.

if you look close some gg bags are again scuffed at the corners its all the same tricks ...with overtly pointy shoes high slits and lots of lycra etc

luca will want a shiny expensive happy gucci that engages with new technologies/innovation and is a modern Apple like company like LV or a Hermes is non offensive luxury.

I think there’s an important distinction being overlooked. Demna is definitely using character phenotypes in the presentation and lookbook, and that part is intentionally theatrical for the sake of the narrative. But the clothes themselves don’t actually have the exaggeration or distortion required to be considered caricature. Some of these looks aren’t even Ford adjacent, so the comparison doesn’t fully track. That first look is more Donatella truth be told.

Caricature depends on taking an original idea and blowing it up into parody. I don’t really see that here like we did at balenciaga.

The garments here are relatively restrained in cut, silhouette, and material. The styling may push a certain storyline, but the pieces on their own don’t rely on costume, exaggeration, or humor. The collection still functions as a contemporary interpretation or as some are saying ”copy”, not a cartoon version of Ford’s era.

I like where he is heading but he will have to dig deeper for his first runway show. Gucci is such a behemoth and it’s still missing a spark, even though there are things I’m interested in

the first suit is verry tom its because the girl is blonde and in pink
but the suit closure tom did in past show , the pants tight open split is from early gucci show tom did in ss 1997 , the shoes and bags speak for themselves.

i understand a blond skinny girl in sexy pants suit recalls donatella even frida but i really can dissect 80 % of it all to tom copies from different season.

like i said the Caricature here is the lack of quality in the looks lack of rigor.... it ends up looking funny not about exaggeration in volume but a bad verison.
he does not rely on humor that does not mean we the viewers don't see its funny bad like a bad tom caricature of his gucci .

he takes himself serious we know.lol

yes lets see the show its soon anyways:)

I'm sorry but why is Demna still working with part of Ancora'a flop team? Zanola is still doing artistic consultancy and the castings are managed by PGDM mafia. I thought Demna would have kicked both of them out immediately, especially floppy Zanola's.
I'm disappointed. With this team we had a TF fashion show caricature and a terrible casting, Elsa Hosk has been trying to detach herself from the glamazon bombshell image for more than 5 years, started her own clothing brand featuring knock offs of Victoria Beckham, Vaccarello YSL and The Row and she gets casted to cosplay an early 00's supermodel in full glam, come on.
