susie_bubble said:OMG...how weird but my colleague and I were just talking about this - a friend of her's who used to work at Chanel said that unsold stock, leftover from sales would be burnt yearly in some secret location in Spain. But granted, this person worked at Chanel 5 yrs ago so I'm not sure whether this is still the norm.
I think it's terrible too....just ridiculously wasteful.

Some of the designers do warehouse creations for their historical and legacy value, held in vaults for future donation to museums and private collections with a focus on maintenance and future presentation.

fabrications can be kept in archives and used in the future as references, special occasions, etc. <-- i'm thinking of the dress ghesquiere did for the marie antoinette edit on september vogue... it said the belt was made with and ooooold old fabric (dont remember how old)from the labels archives
i've read in a magazine (vogue?) that some of the things that are not sold are offered to people in magazines or in the company (vogue editors, chanel financial or shop assistants...)

westwood85 said:true? it's such a pity...i understand that they want to save their image but for me will be a great thing if they snipped off labels and donated them away...insted of making hypocritical charity campaigns...but i know this is the world we live in...
