do u guys think no matter how you dress, overall depends on your look. Some people wear desinger clothes (Dior, Chanel, LV ...whatever) but they look sh*tty on them:sick: . But some people just wear maybe some cheap mass production labels like even Giodano, but they look really great on them:blink: .

Is it to do somthing with your face (beautiful or ugly)?:ninja: :ninja: :ninja:

Please post interesting pictures for example.:flower:

It is true. Paris makes a Chanel suit look like trash while Missus X makes a Jones New York boucle suit look like it's couture. It's all about the person. I hope Im one of those people who make things look good and not tacky...

Part of the reason that people dress cheap but look expensive is taste. It's being able to discerne the look, color, cut of an outfit. I saw a woman wearing this spectacular Prada-esque outfit, a beige with red and blue tie die full skirt with a coordinating beige jacket and red slingbacks, it turns out her outfit cost less than $250 when it looked like it had an extra zero on it.

Indeed ... it is one of life's comforts for those of us not born with anything silver in our mouths that taste is not for sale :D

of course! I don't think it's only the face though, it's how you carry yourself, the way you take care of yourself, have your hair done, your nails done, great skin & makeup. It is all of those factors that determine to overall apperance. I was purchasing alot of very high end expensive clothes, yeah I looked great! but my wallet was getting slimmer & slimmer, so I opted for more moderate priced clothes, I don't buy $5 clothes, but BCBG, Max Studio etc. and I don't feel any less attractive than when I was wearing Gucci or Chanel. i feel they suit me great, and that blowing thousands of bucks every season, will not make you look any better. You either got it or you dont!

Tht's why fashion can be so interesting. It's the person who wears their clothes makes the clothes beautiful, not the other way round, in most case.

Not really, that comes from within. I can say that there is a fine line between high fashion and tasteless, your personal taste will determine that...

yeah this basically sums it up...which brings to my mind a quote from an article I read in Men's Vogue, i think it was the sister of the young man in charge of Fiat, that woman is running Caraceni (sp?) tailoring now, and she said, about the suits: "They won't work if you're not born with elegance." Which I think applies to not just all high fashion clothes, but stylish clothing in general.

Other than innate elegance, there's also the factor of what you choose from the "cheap" store. If you have a good/developed eye, you'll choose the best available at any price point ...

^Agreed. It's the TYPE of cheap clothes that you pick that determines how cheap the item looks. Also, how you accessorise your outfit. Mixing and matching helps a lot. A pair of expensive shoes will balance out an outfit from H&M.

I'll add that it's not just a matter of taste, but also of knowing your own body and face. The slightest details can have a major effect on how you look, and you need to tailor your choice of clothing to the details that are most flattering.

For example, I know I cannot wear high-collared dress shirts. As much as I like those 3-button-collar Vivienne Westwood shirts, I will never have one because it won't work on me. I also know my face is too round to wear certain types of collar shapes. And much to my dismay, my frame is far too slim to wear a lot of the pre-millennium Comme des Garcons shirts. No matter how beautiful they may be, they were cut too generously to look good on me.

Rule 1: It's not who made it or how much it costs, it's how it looks.

Rule 2: It's not just how it looks, it's how it looks on you.

The set of people who understand Rule 1 is remarkably small, but the intersection of that set with the set who also understand Rule 2 is infinitesimal.

You are painting a dismal picture for us, Baron

I do definitely think about Rule 2 ... saw this blouse I really liked in a catalog the other day, and it had 3, count them 3, buttons down the front ... I know without ever seeing it that no waaay is that going to work on me. And I've noticed that square necklines make my jawline look square whereas normally it doesn't so I don't wear those ... but ... there's a part of me that doesn't want limits imposed on me. So sometimes, I wear things that are not optimally flattering just because I want to, dammit :p Now I do everything I can to make them work as well as possible, like trying to put some skin between the color black & my face. But after that ...

I guess what I'm getting at here is another part of the equation, which is attitude. I've had people tell me before, no way could I pull that off, but it looks great on you. That's ~90% attitude, I think ... ;)

Exhibit A, Isabella Blow.

So perhaps there's another set ... Those who know all these things, but want to push the envelope a bit, break the rules ... ;)

^Fashionista-ta - You're not the only one! I don't really follow body rules either. If I wanna wear a high collared Victorian blouse even though it makes my face look kinda fat, then by god, I'll wear it! I don't care if things make me look unflattering...as long as the outfit makes ME feel good.

if you feel gd in yrself & wht yr wearing
it comes across to other ppl & they do pick on this
i know i do . . ;)

My trick is to mix it up.
Some of my best fitting jeans are 20$ jeans from lower broadway, or my
Miss Sixty's..which are by no means expensive...

Like wear cheap jeans witha Missoni sweater....
or Dolce and Gabbana jeans with a white gap tee......

Or a vintage chanel cocktail dress with steve madden biker boots....

Mix Ups, baby!!!

yeah the high-low phenomenon is definitely the way to go nowadays. Nothing beats wearing a brandless white tee with some 225 GBP PRPS jeans!

I have a very plain face, but I know how to put together an outfit and accessories to go with the outfit.

It comes down to knowing what types of clothing suit your figure, and what colors suit your complexion, and what clothing is appropriate for the occasion and location.

If you were to see me in my grubby clothes when I am working in my garden, you'd think it was a dreadful, homely white-trash woman, but if you saw me dressed up a little bit downtown, you'd probably think I looked a little eccentric, but not bad at all.

fully agreement:)

hey girls, susie and fashionista... i totally agree with you both...

my body is built in this way... i know some dresses and skirts and also a bit more of "cleavage exposure" suit me better than jeans but i always love trying to look a bit rock and roll-ish and wear jeans 6 out of seven days a week... even if i know i would probably look prettier in the first items of clothing... i definitely feel cooler wearing the rock-ish style and that also makes me more secure of myself and that helps my self steem even if my mind knows i am not supposed to be doing the right thing, style-wise. fashion should always be fun so wear what makes you feel cool and special. that always works!

it s true that on some people even designer clothes look like cheap rags. it s probably because instead of wearing the clothes they let the clothes wear them. sometimes i see a girl with the most expensive outfit on and it just looks blah. it s a sad thing knowing how much the item must ve cost. i think the most important thing is to stay true to your style and your body shape and not give in too much to trends, they re the ones that can make or break your look. it s so hard to pull them off without looking like you tried too hard.
