Discussion: Who Should Be The Creative Director of Balenciaga?

Nicolas di Felice or Chitose Abe I could see.

Riccardo Tisci I could also see if he is invested and present.

They all have the experience to do streetwear and then transition the brand without alienating and destabilizing the house.

i don’t even consider Dior a competitor right now.
Kering is so far behind

I’ll do it. I’ll go to Balenciaga! I really would (who cares about about Kerings treatment at this point), mainly just to peruse the archives 😅

All honesty, Chitose would be exciting. Or even Sharon Wauchob. Chitose is more technical, whereas Sharon is more ephemeral so they’d be very different approaches.

I know it won’t happen, but Natacha Ramsay-Levi could bring back some of that NG era coolness back to the brand. Plus, she’s already familiar with the brand. Her talent was wasted at Chloe.

Yes wont happen, the relationship between NG, Ramsay-Levi, MAS and Kering are broken since Balenciaga.

I would also love to see Nico de Felice somewhere bigger, not sure about Balenciaga though not because Pinault wouldn't ask him but he contributed to NG's vision his entire career other than a 1.5 year stint for Raf Dior. I wonder if he would find it difficult to separate his path of thinking with what he was contributing to NG's vision there, and maybe not want to touch it because nothing for him can top NG's era?

This is a compliment for Natacha but she's way too intellectual for Chloe. Chloe needs something easy to digest so all the rich bohemian girls can fawn over.

Balenciaga I think at this point is even more mass then Chloe so I don't think Natacha will work there... She does need a good merchandiser to bring her vision down to the consumer level.

Natacha is way to much up into NG black hole of universe :-) to do anything different than the over design and stiff sci fi light costumes she is obsessed with and furthermore she has no commercial vision to balance all the sci fi disguised as intellect vomit she designs.

Natacha is also good at taking brand application projects and using them 1:1 in her fashion show collection like its her own research, as happened to a friend of mine.

Nasty Natasha needs therapy not a merchandiser.

Natacha's Chloe was both overdesigned and cheap looking. Wouldn't mind not seeing her at the helm of any brand again.

Look, I want Balenciaga to be stored and compete with Dior in the style space. I don't know if it will happen but I don't need any edgy brand. I want a couture house that knows how to cut patterns and make great accessories. But given it's Kering, this is wishful thinking.
The gap is too wide today. Balenciaga can compete with Celine or Loewe but Chanel and Dior are such large and well oiled machines that it’s almost impossible.
And then Balenciaga will have another problem post-Demna with the products that will flood the outlets, and others discounts. The brand has literally went from ultra exclusive under Nicolas to ultra accessible under Demna.

Do we really always need to bring back the feeling of the past when it will never live up to it?
I think she is talented but I would rather have her at Acne Studios. I loved her Chloe but maybe too edgy.

I wish more financially strong contemporary brands would be more ambitious in terms of design because I think she is that kind of talent that could help one of those brands be at another level.

I think the problem with some NG people is that Nicolas shaped their aesthetic. So, in the luxury market, without a strong DNA at a house, NG is always going to be better because it’s forward thinking, commercially strong while being totally retro-futuristic.

Nicolas Di Felice don’t have to suffer from those NG comparison because he has a strong minimalist aesthetic on his own.
