Discussion: Who Should Be The Creative Director of Chanel?

We've been playing this game for a while now but that WWD article definitely adds to the credibility of this latest Mathieu Blazy rumor. If the true, maybe it'll be the final nail in the coffin for Kering.

Considering his still relatively young age, Blazy has the experience (even in couture), the fashion credibility, he speaks French... His BV has been very diverse in terms of casting, image and trying to exude global appeal.
But I think most of all he seems like a nice guy, a total team player and someone without an enormous ego or diva behavior. His BV is still doing financially well in a more challenging market than before. And maybe he doesn't insist on a $10million (or more!) annual paycheck.
In short, I can see Leena Nair and co liking him. Their plan is Chanel the brand first and foremost and the CD should play second fiddle.
Their plan is Chanel the brand first and foremost and the CD should play second fiddle.

this was already with karl as much as he was big personality he always spoke of chanel as starting point to every thing and the point of it all , he always said he was the hired help/hired hitman.... jokingly just a illustrator.....also was smart of him as he had more than one house to take care of.

this concept of house as the center or putting the church of the center of the village is a french saying (Remettre l’église au milieu du village /they’re basically saying there is no excuse for a misunderstanding, as the details should have been clear once the following the discussing the instructions they just gave )
as this also how LV treated their LV with marc ......its not a concept that now leena & co are applying only now its been there for some houses for some time

hedi uses also this term in a interview

also its not CD is second fiddle the CD is the invited guest at the house not the owner not center of the universe ..its healthy as a guest you know your boundaries and you know why your there to not be boring and add to the stay and has the host you know you have obligation to make your guest feel welcomed and at ease it goes both ways more than master and servant idea of work relationship

I’m quite OK with the idea of Mathieu Blazy taking over Chanel.
He lives in Paris right? He will enjoy the city, good salary and extras but more than that, he has a lot of creativity to give.

I don’t mind that because at Chanel, the frame is there, the archives are there and in way, it allows a designers to transform the POV of a Chanel woman. I mean, we saw it with Karl: the Fun Vulgarity of the 1995 collection was balanced 3 years later by an almost monacal vision (and I’m using that example simply because of the over obsession of the 90’s).

And more than that: Mathieu is modern!

It seems like an insult today but I like contemporary fashion. The past is good but I want to be surprised, to move forward.

The only thing I don’t like about Blazy is that RAF crowd, that stylist of his and his choice of photographers and things like that.
they( Channel management ) regret pricing out people with the chanel classic bag and the sales with in this year are experiencing slower growth.
its hard to go back now with adjusting this price increases.
I was told about that but I simply asked why they don’t use that opportunity to completely rethink the production and marketing of the bag? It’s time to go back to fully made in France to me…

Tbh, I’m so mad about the 2:55. They raised the price because it’s an iconic bag but it’s not even a bag that was sellling that much!

Matthieu does what he does at BV because it's BV, that doesn't mean he will do the exact same thing at Chanel...if he was interviewed for the position and is frontrunner according to the media maybe because he convinced them what would be his vision of the Chanel woman...and it's a way to go forward. In the end this will be a big proof for their career to however be the actual CD chosen, a proof you don't want to fail.

On the side note agree with Lola on their campaigns and visuals...kinda dry and not interesting much. Hopefully he can access also to a better team for the brand.

Does fashion need another dry intellectual designer? I'm tired of the Raf/Phoebe spawns that are getting all of these appointments. I'm tired of having to pretend this intellectual masturbation is groundbreaking or even interesting. What a brown paper bag made of leather? Kate Moss wearing a plaid shirt made of leather? Tom Fords YSL Mombasa but woven? We are in this era of quiet luxury where the main brands like Hermes, Brunello, Loro Piana and naturally Bottega Veneta are surviving. Sure BV has a good marketing game, but I'm not sold on the genius of Mattheiu Blazy. Please let it not be him.
